Silly Question
Hi All
One more day and I will be in the castle - slaying that dragon that has plagued me for years.
In reading some of the castle stories - some of the sisters mentioned the doctors removing packing from the vaginal while others did not. My question is does the doctor pack that area - I'd like to know what to expect.
Thanks to anyone that will answer this silly question but will put my mind at ease.

Silly Question
I see that you'll be having an abdominal hysterectomy. I had TAH and had no vaginal packing. I think that's only done for vaginal hysts, and only some doctors do this.
Hope this helps...

Silly Question
Hi,
I had a TVH and packing. It might be just for vaginal surgery. It was like a roll of gauze (for lack of a better description). The day after surgery the nurse pulled it out. It reminded me of a magician pulling the scarf out of his sleeve. It just kept coming and coming. It didn't hurt, just felt weird! By the way, the teacher in me has to say, "There are no silly questions!"

Silly Question
I do believe that the packing is only for vaginal surgery. I had an LAVH and I did have packing. It was definately a weird feeling when they took it out, but didn't really hurt.
I wouldn't think that you will have it was abdominal surgery!
Good luck,
Susan

Silly Question
Hi,
I had a TVH and no packing. So it looks like it is up to the dr who is doing it.
Best of luck on your upcoming surgery.

Silly Question
I had packing with TVH and repairs. I doubt you will have it for a TAH.

Silly Question
I had a TAH, BSO and no packing. However, I did have a vaginal drain. It stayed in for about 36 hours after surgery with the catheter. Didn't really hurt coming out, just had to sit a little with my knees up and cough (eeek). The drain has a rubber "T" at the top to keep it in place. Glad I read about it here first so it didn't freak me out when I woke up.

Silly Question
Anyone here will tell you there are no silly questions;-)
As you have read, some do, some don't.
I asked my doctor before surgery if she was going to use packing and she said in most cases she does not pack the vagina unless there is a lot of bleeding. I had a TVH and no packing infact, the doctor said I had very little bleeding and only needed a pad for the first two days after surgery.

Silly Question
No packing for a TAH, just for TVH because your stitches will be on the inside.
You'll have just a bit of pink, watery discharge. Mine lasted just 1.5 days, then gone, gone, gone! Yay! I am a fast healer.
Good luck to you!!!! See you on the other side!
Jackie
