Re: tastes have changed-permanent?

I, too, have had taste changes and food preference changes. At 6 weeks I'm only just beginning to be interested in sweets. Since I've been eating healthier, I'm trying to keep the habit.

Re: tastes have changed-permanent?

I didn't read all the posts here, but mine too have changed. I am 9 weeks post op and actually digging the changes!! Before surgery I was a junk food junkie! Gimme chocolate or gimme death type thing, and I could eat it all day long too and I HATED yes HATED vegetables! Now however sweets make me sick and I can not get enough veggies!! I am loving it (my kids thou, not so much!)

Re: tastes have changed-permanent?

I'm over ten weeks out now and almost back to normal. No longer taking iron supplements either. Taste buds pretty much back to normal. Need to go on a diet!

Good luck x

Re: tastes have changed-permanent?

Good point RDA-Jen I was a carb junkie before now I'm all about the sprouts and broccoli. I think it's the fatigue and stress beforehand that does it.

Re: tastes have changed-permanent?

I was actually thinking about this the other day! I'm glad you posted it

I used to hate raw tomatoes... Now I love them!

And for some weird reason I can't handle any kind of roast anymore! As soon as I carve halfway into it the smell hits, my stomach turns and I just can't eat it

Re: tastes have changed-permanent?

Me too! I usually have sweet iced tea with each meal, and the last few times I've had it (post surgery) it tasted weird. I fill up very fast now too. I have lost a few pounds since the operation, so I will try to keep this up as long as I can!

I am 5 months out of a SAH. I very much noticed my tastes changed after surgery. Mostly it was a good thing. I really only wanted healthy foods. Sweets didn't at all appeal to me. However, I am a coffee drinker and coffee completely grossed me out. I never drank tons or anything, and I don't drink soft drinks. The mere smell of coffee made me gag early on.
All these months later things still aren't quite right. Less than a cup is really all I can handle. (I feel like I need the morning "boost" though I am considering switching to something else) Its kinda sad. Everyone knows I love coffee...got tons of Starbucks gift cards! LOL Pretty much still don't want sweets either. (of course no one really needs sweets)
Anyway...right there with ya.

Re: tastes have changed-permanent?

No one has mentioned contracting Thrush in the mouth from taking antibiotics. My tongue was more red and hot than it was coated white. But I learned a lot about probiotics and the doctor gave me a medicine called Nystatin oral suspension. I rinsed my mouth out 4 times a day, brushed my teeth often, and I ate yogurt at least once a day. Soon food started tasting "normal".
