Painful BM's 2 weeks post-op
WOW! Just for some background, I am 2 weeks post op and although it was to be a 2 hr laproscopic partial historectomy, it turned out to be a 5 hour laproscopic followed by open abdominal, complete histoectomy due to major complication that also caused me to require 2 blood transfusions.
Long story short, everything was going as planned (pain and all) until 4 days ago. I went into doctor because one of my incisions opened. While I was there I asked if the egg size rock below my belly button was normal. She is going to see what comes of it but explained I may have a hernia now. Since then, (within the last 36 hours) I have been having the most horrific BM's of my life. They begin with a fast cramping clear through my abdomin and down to my rectum til expelled. I find myself in a catch 22 because it hurt SOOOO bad to poop, but if I dont, the pressure is unbelievable.
Not that I would wish this to anyone that may be reading, please tell me I am not alone!

Painful BM's 2 weeks post-op
franlynn you are not alone at all. I am 3 weeks post-op and gradually it is getting a little bareable.
I found myself starting to feel the pains as I called it coming around the bend in my intestines until it was expelled as well. On the commode I would scream, cry and yell - scaring the heck out of my family. I made the mistake of taking laxatives daily for a little while which I thought would help however only made things worse - DR said to take stool softners daily which helps a little.
I think time letting yourself heal and get used to the "new you" has its adjustments and pain however the long run will be worth it.
Best of luck and hang in there

Painful BM's 2 weeks post-op
My doc suggested senokot which has helped and watch what you eat. I have IBS and the slightest food that irritates my stomach can send me over the edge in cramps and cold sweats. Not fun! I've started taking one senokot a day and then every other day I may take more doses. If I take the suggested doses daily, it rips my tummy apart. Good Luck!

Painful BM's 2 weeks post-op
I am 9 weeks post and although it has gotten better, gas is still almost doubling me over and I am afraid to strain but feel like a have to push hard to get even soft bm out. Not unbearable just not what I am used to I am waiting for things to get better as they gradually are. Hope you get some relief soon.

Have you tried coconut oil pills? They helped me intensely. No gas and everything slides out without straining. They saved me because the stool softeners were just not enough.

Painful BM's 2 weeks post-op
Three weeks out this last Wednesday, and even the small ones feel like monsters moving through. I'm still taking stool softener and will continue to do so until it feels better. On the plus side, I no longer scream when I urinate!

Painful BM's 2 weeks post-op
I am three DAYS post op from a TAH, and in my personal experience I think that the stool softeners are a joke. I learned that the hard way 5 years ago when I had my daughter and I had to have a 4th degree episiotomy. yes just thinking about it makes me want to puke! Anyway, since then I am a firm believer of prune juice. I used it then and I am definately using it now. It's best to drink one cup before you go to bed. I actually just had my first post op bm today and to my suprise it wasn't painful at all. The gas from the surgery is causing pain, in the hospital they gave my mylicon, but I'm sure gas x would work the same. Hope this helps!!
