Post op mess

Da Vinci on 2/11 - removed uterus and cervix. Terrible gas pains the first two weeks. At my 2 week ck up, the Dr said the pain in my shoulder is not from gas. Any one have shoulder pain after surgery?
I have been bleeding for almost 2 weeks now. At my 2 week ck up, my Dr used Silver Nitrate to stop the bleeding but it has not helped.
I am afraid I am trying to do too much - one day, I am okay and then I suffer for 2 days... I am into my 3rd week, and I am tired of feeling tired.
The first week after surgery, I couldnt sleep ... then 1 week and 1 day after surgery, I finally slept. Now I am back to not sleeping again. It has been 2 nights and I am up all night. I feel like if I dont get out of the house and do something, I will never sleep again...
I guess I didnt have my time to prepare for the surgery and this is just overwhelming to me. Any advice out there?

Re: Post op mess

I had a TAH about 6 wks ago and I had also experienced shoulder pain. I had asked my ob/gyn about the pain and she told me it was from the gas. My shoulder actually hurt worse than the surgery site, go figure.

I also had left shoulder pain but that was from tendonitis that I had gotten prior to surgery.

I think the inability to sleep is due to the surgical menopause. I am experiencing it as well; I wake up during the night and then I sleep until 9 or so the next morning.

Re: Post op mess

I didn't have a DaVinci so can't speak about things you should or shouldn't be doing, but in general, my guess wold be that you are suffering because you are overdoing it and your body is letting you know it. I had discharge for the first 2 weeks that went away unless I got out of the house for a little bit and then the more I walked the more I had. At 3-4 weeks it was gone. I went back to work last Wednesday and it's back again. It's not bleeding, but a tan discharge. My doctor's office told me today it's because I'm overdoing it and my body's letting me know. So, at 7 weeks out from TVH, BSO, AP Repair and TOT sling, I have to cut back. I came home early from work today, took a shower, and went straight to the couch. That's where I've been ever since. DH brought me supper because I didn't even feel like moving. This is major surgery, and you didn't say if you kept your ovaries or not, but problems sleeping can be related to hormones and surgery. I had problems starting at 3 weeks post op, but now that I'm back working I'm exhausted.

Try cutting back and not doing so much if you can and see if that helps would be my advice. As for the sleeping, I have been back and forth with that as well. I did get some Ambien, but only took it twice because I didn't like the way it made me feel. If you're not afraid to take something like that, check with your doctor. I don't think it's unusual to have the sleep problems.

HUGS and I hope you feel better soon.

Re: Post op mess

Does your shoulder still hurt. I had a torn rotator cuff on my left shoulder that I had repaired 2 yrs ago. That is how my right shoulder now feels. I keep thinking they dropped me when moving me from the surgical table back to my bed... My ob/gyn is sending me to an orthopedic to see if there is any damage... but how did it happen????

Re: Post op mess

I forgot to mention that I have elbow pain. I have had shoulder pain from anesthesia that lasted a couple weeks postop, but can't figure out why I have elbow pain as my IV was in my hand.

Re: Post op mess

I had Lap surgery years ago and the worse pain was in my shoulders from gas.

Iv's can hit a nerve and course the pain to travel.

I hope you can get the pain under control.

Re: Post op mess

I had the Davinci on 2/12 and I had terrible shoulder, neck pain. The nurse said it was not the gas, but didn't know what it was. I agree, it was worse than the surgery pain. I think it's from the way they tip the table so all of your weight is on your shoulders and neck...... just my opinion, of course. Hope you feel better soon! Mine only lasted a couple of days. Have you tried Gas-X in case it is gas? Take care!
