From Numb to Tender

Hi hystersisters,

Just reading thru the posts makes me feel better... our issues are so similar.

My tummy has been numb for the last few days, especially above the incision. Now am tender and my back and side hurts. I have had to take pain killers but its taking long for the pain to subside. Should I take the painkiller even when I am not in pain?

I am hoping to have a restful night, if the pain allows me. sob sob.

I cant believe I have become such a cry baby... my period pains were worse than this, but nowadays each time I have pain, I cry.

Thanks for being there for me..

Re: From Numb to Tender

Here are a few in the hopes they make you feel better. By the way, if you are in pain to the point you can't sleep, you need to get hold of your doctor and get something that will work better. Or maybe you aren't taking your meds regularly to stay ahead of the pain. Setting a timer to remind you will help. My nurses told me to never let the pain get above a 5 out of ten because then it is really hard to get it back down. You heal much better if you aren't in pain.

Numbness around the incision is normal and it can hang around for quite a while. I didn't regain complete sensation until I was 8 and a half months post-op.

I hope you feel better soon.

Re: From Numb to Tender

Thanks Danni... Now I know where I go wrong. As long as am not in pain I don't take my meds... then when the pain comes, it is so hard on me.

I shall form now on take my painkiller as prescribed. Three times a day.

Joelynn, I also hate the feeling but we are getting better each day.
