Cymbalta
My GYN recently placed my on Cymbalta. He spoke with my about taking an SSRI over a year ago and I just put it off. I couldn't believe that I couldn't just handle things on my own. Well, a year later and with a pending LAVH, rectocele, TOT, two small kids, Christmas around the corner and my DMIL coming to "help" after the surgery I caved and started taking it.
I was just curious if anyone else was taking this and some insight on pros/cons and your side effects if any.
Thanks!

Cymbalta
Hi, I was put on cymbalta by my Rheumatologist for my fibromyalgia a couple years ago. It is suppose to help with pain. My BP went sky high and I had to go off. My doc said some people's BP will rise on it, so just watch your BP don't go up...other than the BP problems, I didn't have any other side effect. It did wonders for my fibro, but I could ot have a blood pressure being so high so I went off of them.
Good luck to you on them, and good luck with your LAVH. I had one almost 10 weeks ago and did great. It's really the way to go if you can have it that way. You can look at my tummy and hardly be able to see I had surgery. I know having a LAVH is what helped me recover so much more easily. I was fortunate to have a good doc that everyone said she was really good at LAVH'S. Best of luck.

Cymbalta
I'm not on Cymbalta. I have been on WellbutrinXL (300mg)for a little over a year now; and Seroquel (100mg to help me sleep and forget the nightmares that I usually have) for about 3 years for PTSD, depression, and anxiety. When all the pain and doctors visits started, he put me on Celexa (20mg) to supplement the Wellbutrin because I just couldn't function without crying all the time. I'm really glad he did, it was nice to go through a few days at a time with just the pain and without crying. I have also been taking Xanax for the panic attacks. I don't take it like I'm supposed to though. I only take it when I feel an attack coming on (shortness of breath or chest pains). And then, I start out with either 1/2 or 1/4 of the pill, and increase every 30 mins until it calms me down. I usually don't take a full pill because I don't like the "dopey" feeling it gives me.
As far as side-effects, I personally have been tried on quite a few of the anti-depressants. The side-effect that I usually get when started on a new rx is drowsiness. For me, it usually lasts for a week or two before I feel confident to drive and not risk myself or anybody else.
Shoot, if I wasn't on anything, I believe I'd have to start with just the thought of the DMIL coming to "help". LOL
Just take care. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Hugs and luck,
Char

Cymbalta
I was on Cymbalta for the tingling sensation with MS. It caused weight gain for me, even though it says it doesn't. My GP says he has a number of patients who have been on it who have experienced weight gain. I also had night sweats with it. I am no longer on it and both side effects went away.

I take Topamax for the tingling. It works pretty well. I used to take Neurontin but it also did the weight gain thing. So right now Topamax is the answer for me. But it's not an anti-depressant and so it wouldn't be the answer for your symptoms. Let your doctor know what side effects you're experiencing and he/she can always change you to something else that may work a little better for you. Good luck!
