Rough times

Hi Ladies,

I had my hyster. on July 29th, it was a LSH, one incision only, through the belly button.....it was suppose to be quick, and I was suppose to be feeling great after 5-7 days. Hummmm....not quite. I ended up in the ER that night, in horrible pain, and not urinating...did a CT scan of my pelvis, didn’t see anything weird, sent me home.....spent the next day in horrible pain, and the following day I had enough and told the doc something was wrong. After he did a bladder scope...no urine was coming out of my right ureter. I ended up in three hours of emergency surgery right away, where they put a stent in my blocked ureter. Apparently, when the doc was stitching up my pelvic floor, he couldn’t see my ureter very well because of severe endometriosis, and looped my ureter...kinking it off. I went home the next day, feeling better.....but less than 48 hours later, had a 103 fever and was in bad shape with both a kidney and bladder infection. I spent four days in the hospital, on IV antibiotics.....and am on antibiotics until I get this stent out in Sept. SO much for an easy, peasy out patient one incision hysterectomy. My surgeon said that I had way, way more endometriosis than he anticipated, lots of adhesions and my left ovary was destroyed, he took that out. He left my right ovary and cervix. My main reasons for doing this were horrific pain and bleeding with my cycles. Now I know why it was so bad. We just thought it was adenomyosis....

My questions.....do most of you still have some bloody discharge after 13 days? I just passed what looked like a few pieces of tissue!!! That doesn’t seem normal to me.

Do you still have drainage from your belly button sites after 13 days?? It is irritating to still be doing that.....

I am still wiped out, which doesn’t surprise me given how sick I was, and having two surgeries in a week.....and practically being septic as well.....

Thanks, Ladies!! Any feedback would be appreciated.

Re: Rough times

Although I didn't have discharge I was told I could have it, in diminishing amounts, for weeks. I had some infection from a couple lap incisions so had some drainage, but the non infected ones didn't drain past a couple days. I'm sorry you've had these problems for so long and such complications. I hope things are better for you soon.

Re: Rough times

I had surg the day before you and have some of the kidney probs you describe, I actually have 3 and he blocked one of the urters entrance to bladder with sling. My belly button hasnt seeped at all, have you asked your doc about it? Hopefully the stent and antibiotics will kick it, happy healing

Re: Rough times

Thanks everyone, I am feeling much better. I still have pain in my right kidney if I do too much, and a little blood in my urine, but that is normal if you have a stent.....so I am out of bed now, driving, off pain meds...and doing okay. It was a very long few weeks!!! I did discover that even though my doc said I had no lift restrictions, hoisting my 25 pound almost three year old around was NOT OKAY.....so I am backing off of that one for a while, fortunately, she has four big brothers that are okay carrying the little princess around....
Peace,
D.

Re: Rough times

Also had rough times with my LSH. I ended up back at the hospital one week after LSH for infection, I was there for 3 days on IV antibiotics. Turns out I had stage 4 endometriosis, my large and small intestine were all stuck to my uterus. Because of all the adhesions I also developed a fistula from my small intestine to vagina. Instead of going into another surgery again, my doctor told me there's a chance the fistula will heal on its own. I'm hoping for the best. I was on antibiotics for a month and I'm finally off all antibiotics because it was making me sick.

Re: Rough times

D.- I'm feeling much better now and went back to work. Just waiting for this fistula to heal. I still have some yellow discharge and I need to wear a pad everyday. The discharge had since decrease a lot compare to the beginning. It's been a long and rough two months.
