Upcoming hysterectomy 12/9: Sore throat: need advice

My surgery is on the 9th. I've just started with a scratchy throat. No congestion. No fever. Not achy. Just barely scratchy. I've started gargling with warm salt water. I'm drinking lots of water and orange juice. Any other advice on what I should do to stay healthy? Thank you!

Re: Sore throat: need advice

Try getting a Neti Pot at the pharmacy. They're shaped like a tea pot. You fill them with warm water and salt, tilt your head to the side, and pour it in each nostril. It helps rinse out your sinuses and clearing up congestion. Also, try buying cheese or yogurt that has probiotics in it. Probiotics put "good" bacteria in your gut and help keep the bad bacteria at bay. They come in supplement form also, but you don't want to start taking a new supplement this close to surgery without clearing things with your doctor. I've taken the Align brand of probiotics for years. It's helped with my digestive issues and I haven't gotten sick as often since I've been on it. It might be worth considering to take after your surgery. But definitely check with your doctor. Basic hygiene like washing your hands before eating and frequently throughout the day also helps keep you from getting sick. Wipe down door knobs, TV remotes, computer keyboards, and other surfaces frequently touched by others. Your surgery is the day before mine.

Re: Sore throat: need advice

Eating marshmallows coats the throat. Lemon tea or chamomile tea with honey is great also!

I find taking cold eeze losenges several times a day for a couple of days helps me knock things like that out early.
