Shaving

Hi All

My first post here.

I am due to go in on Monday for a TAH with a vertical incision due to very large fibroids..... my question is if I should shave down below??

Re: Shaving

I did Nair because my gyn was worried I might cut myself and be open to infection. I was told that if I did not do it myself they would do it in pre op. That was my situation anyway. I had a TAH with bikini incision. Removed everything.
Good luck and best wishes

Re: Shaving

I'm glad you mentioned that. I can't answer the question, but that's something else to think about anyway. I'm going to ask at the pre-op clinic when I go, although my surgery will be different than yours.

Re: Shaving

Please ask... most hospitals do not want you to do it yourself; they will do it for you if it needs to be done. My DR was different - told me I could do it myself but only with an electric razor and NOT the day before.

There have been instances where surgeries have been cancelled because the patient has shaved before going in... so do ask.

Re: Shaving

I agree. I got the ok to do it from my gyn but I asked her specifically about it. She said that Nair and waxing were ok but to do it 3 days or more before the surgery

Re: Shaving

I was told at my pre-op. to remove the top half of my pubic hair (I was having the vertical incision), or else they'd do it on the day.
I used Veet (hair removing cream) 2 days before to make sure the skin had settled down.

Re: Shaving

I agree on checking; you don't want to risk a rash there and even without a rash the itchiness can be crazy making

Re: Shaving

I had pre op at the Hospital 5 days before my surgery. They made sure to tell me NOT to shave! They was teained to do it. I did trim ( sorry tmi) but thats about all you can do. Make sure to shave your legs when you do your last shower! ! My hubby is still shaving mine ( 10 days post op)
