Urinary incontinence

I am four months post laparoscopic hysterectomy. I had very minor urinary incontinence before the surgery and much more now, which is becoming a major nuisance. Does it have anything to do with the hysterectomy? Will it improve or am I stuck with it?

Urinary incontinence

Hi chrytmto,
I'm sorry you're struggling with the incontinence. I had it before my surgery, but had a bladder sling done and it has been wonderful. I can't say if your problems were caused by your surgery or not. I do know that sometimes after a hyst because of the loss of support to the pelvic floor prolpase can occur and one symptom can be the incontinence.
I suggest you call your gyn and tell him/her what is happening and have it checked. There are things that can be done to help when this gets to be too big a problem.
One thing you can try is kegal exercises. Here is a link that explains them. http://www.universityobgyn.com/kegal.htm
You need to find out what is causing your incontinence. I hope you'll call and have it checked. Good luck.

's, Rita
