Just venting about Pre-op and family, etc.

My TAH with possible BSO is Tuesday, the 17th. It was just scheduled last Wednesday, so I am having a million things all at once. I've been fighting with the hospital, trying to get the pre-op appointment set up so I can get that over with, but they are taking their time.

Hubby is worried sick because the fibroids aren't my only recent health scares we are dealing with, ATM. I have kids from another marriage and he claims them as his, but I'm terrified that he'll turn on me one day for having no bio children of his own. He swears he is okay with it, but I still worry cuz that's just who I am.

I'm already on SSI for major depression, so the surgery being sprung so quickly hit us at an off week for finances and I'm worried I won't be able to get the stuff I need beforehand. Hubby can't drive, so he won't be able to run and get it, as we live quite a way from the nearest department and grocery stores.

Too boot, I am just an emotional mess. I have wanted this operation for years due to constant bleeding (fixed by ablation in 2004) and fibroids, biopsies, d&c's, etc., etc., but having the general, usual second-thoughts. I know there is no chance of my uterus ever being useful again, but a tiny part of me is in utter denial. LOL I'm also scared of the surgery, itself, because I woke up before they took my tube out last surgery and thought I was suffocating (a major fear of mine).

I know that a lot of you are going through the same things I am or you've already been through it, and that helps so much. I'm so glad this community is here. It's awesome!!!

Re: Just venting about Pre-op and family, etc.

Hang in there, girlfriend. My surgery (TAH/BSO) is scheduled for the 17th too. My husband's been working double shifts. I think it's to avoid me and my moods, but he's been supportive for the most part. I go for my bloodwork on Monday a.m. and then to the hospital at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Have you got everything you need from the stores? Go through the posts on this site. They are awesome, and there are so many good tips. Good luck to you and I'll be thinking of you on the 17th. Keep in touch and you'll be in my prayers.

Re: Just venting about Pre-op and family, etc.

Thanks, Carrie.

I finally got my pre-op done, but they are putting off blood work until the day of surgery. Makes no sense to me since they want a CBC, but it's their goof, not mine.

I've been reading post after post the last couple of days, so I'm well-versed. I found out that I don't have to do bowel prep, which is awesome! hehe The doc will not prescribe a belly belt, which is sort of worrisome. I remember my c-section and how it felt like it would all fall out any minute if I moved wrong. Maybe it will be different since there will be nothing to fall out this time around.

Take care, and I'll be thinking of you on the 17th as well!
