machinery used in LSH

I am getting a LSH/bilat oopher on July 6. There was a paper in my paperwork, requesting of the head of surgery to have a sales representative from the company that makes the morselator in the OR during my surgery. I took another look at the "you could die" consent form, and sure enough, I had agreed for a technical support rep to be present if necessary. I asked about it and he said that they didn't buy the machine, so whenever they use it, the company has someone there with the machine, but he's used it 5 or 6 times now, so they don't need to have someone there, so no one will be there. As I'm hanging up, I mention the difference between a tech support person and a sales rep, and how I was a little concerned if a tech support person doesn't come, and, get this, he says "Oh that's just if it makes a noise or something." It will be fine. So, that's what I'm left with. THe morselator is the machine that grinds up my uteris inside my body.

Lordy! I hope it doesn't make a noise

Hi Ellen,

I had a LSH and I am very pleased with my surgery results.

I did not have a request for a tech rep to be present during surgery in my paperwork. However, right before my surgery, a male nurse in training asked if he could sit in on my surgery. I consented and then started thinking, "How will my Dr. do if he is being watched??"" I had all these wild thoughts. And then I realized my Dr. was a top dog surgeon and what was I worried about. Everything went okay.

The consent part is your choice. I can advise...do what you feel comfortable with.

Best wishes,

Mary
