Weight gain

My mom keeps telling me that I am going to gain weight, due to the hysterectomy. She has always had a weight problem and I have not(not as of yet). I want to lose about 20lbs but I am not stressing over it. I weigh 152 right now.
I do not want to gain any weight and now with her saying this I want to know what I can do to prevent it!
I don't exercise at the moment but want to start walking our neighborhood(new subdivision--they are just about finished with the sidewalks now) when I am able.
I try to eat a high fiber diet, due to constipation problems, but that gets old after while. I LOVE starchy foods, but am trying to stay away from them!
If I stay on the same eatting pattern that I am on now, will I gain, due to the surgery?

Weight gain

No disrespect intended, but I think it's an old wives' tale about gaining weight from a hysterectomy.
Many women get "fuller" in the middle with menopause and so maybe since some hysts. cause surgical menopause it's perceived to be from the hyst. I don't think the surgery itself will cause weight gain.

Weight gain

This subject gets me riled up sometimes!!!!

There is NO reason you will gain weight after your hysterectomy. Just be careful to maintain your current eating pattern. It can be hard to do that if you have friends that bring you food that you don't normally eat. Sometimes we feel justified in eating "comfort foods." We are sedentary after surgery for quite awhile so it's even more important to watch calorie intake.

Now, there IS a difficult thing you have to be careful of. Medications can put weight on you in a quick minute. Make sure you discuss types of hormones with your dr. in detail about what can cause weight gain. It seems like lots of Dr.'s like to put women on depression meds. Those can really mess with your weight. I am a testament to that issue.

Obviously, this is only my opinion. Talk to your Dr. Don't fear, you don't have to gain weight.

Weight gain

The walking can help with the weight, and the constipation as well. There is now also tasteless fiber you can sprinkle in your regular food to increase your fiber. I love Raisin Bran cereal, and it has a lot of fiber in it.

Weight gain

I had my hsyt near six weeks ago AND quit smoking.
Both are said to put weight on you.
I have replaced smoking with drinking peppermint tea. (no calories in tea for my oral fixation) and peppermint tea is very soothing after surgery.
I have not gained any weight. My belly sure looks bigger (the swelly belly thing happening) but have not gained one pound.
I think as long as you watch what goes in the mouth, and be wise with the medication you are taking, you won't have any worries.
As a matter of fact, I have even heard of women on the post op boards telling of how much weight they LOST.
