A soft/easy diet for anyone who needs it.

Hi ladies. I've been working on this, anything to keep my busy until May 22! But here it is. These are suggestions taken from different sites concerning easy/soft diets. I'm actually going to start it a bit early just to clean out my system. Think it might help me loose some weight? I've gained 10 pounds just in the last two months. Is it stress? I'm hoping it's a 15 pound uterus!! I bet I'm not that lucky! =0)

SUGGESTIONS FOR A LIGHT/SOFT DIET (A & P Repairs)

Drink lots of fluids.
Eat slow and chew your food.
Be aware when you feel full and stop eating then.
Avoid high fat foods after surgery, as they might cause nausea.
Eat smaller meals, up to five times per day.
Avoid rubbery meats; steak, pork-chops, ham, and other tough meat. Keep your meats soft and tender for easier digestion. Slow cook items, crock-pots, boiling, etc...
Avoid crunchy hard to digest foods; raw veggies, nuts, popcorn, chips, coconut, pickles, dried fruit, cucumber skin, apple skins.
Try to get adequate amounts of protein to help the healing process. (Protein shakes, Boost, Carnation Instant Breakfast, Tomato Soup made w/milk)

Beverages: (Okay) H2O, Coffee, Tea, Prune Juice, apple juice.
(Avoid) Carbonated Drinks could cause belly swelling
and gas.
Soups: (Okay) Mildly seasoned broth, bouillon, cream soups,
strained vegetable soups, egg drop soups, chicken
noodle.
(Avoid) Gas producing soups, bean soups, gumbo,
split pea, onion soup, or chowders.
Meat: (Okay) Any tender meat, fish, or poultry; eggs; creamy
peanut butter. (Avoid) Fried chicken/fish; fish with bones, shellfish;
fried, salted, or smoked meats; sausage; cold cuts;
bologna, salami, raw or fried eggs; dried beans; nuts
and seeds.
Dairy (Okay) Milk, smooth yogurt, mild-cheese, cottage
cheese, cream cheese.
(Avoid) Milk if lactose-intolerant, yogurt with nuts or
seeds, sharp or strong cheeses, cheeses with heavy
spice, lots of melted cheese. (hard to digest)
Fruits (Okay) Cooked or canned fruit (pears, peaches, mixed)
soft bananas, avocados, applesauce, prunes &
apricots (Good source of fiber!)
(Avoid) All raw fruit, dried fruit, coconut.
Vegies (Okay) Soft-cooked or canned vegetables, fresh lettuce
or tomato without seeds, potatoes (mashed, baked,
boiled, creamed, scalloped), sweet potatoes (great
fiber!)
(Avoid) Gas forming vegetables - broccoli, brussel
sprouts, cabbage, radishes, chili, green peppers,
onions, whole kernel corn, raw vegetables, fried
vegetables, French fries, hash browns.
Grains (Okay) Refined cooked or ready-eat-cereals, oatmeal,
cream-or-wheat, grits, refined white, wheat, or rye
bread, rolls, small tortillas, or saltine crackers; plain
white rice, pasta.
(Avoid) whole-grain breads and cereals (bran, rye with
seeds, or whole wheat); bread or rolls with coconut,
raisin, nuts, or seeds, wild rice.
Fats (Okay) Butter, margarine, mild salas, dressing, mayo,
white gravy, cream, cream substitute, sour cream,
canola/olvie oil.
(Avoid) Spicy salad dressing, fried foods.
Desserts (Okay) Smooth ice cream, ice mild, frozen yogurt,
sherbet, fruit ices, milkshakes, custards, pudding, rice
pudding.
(Avoid) Desserts or candy made with dried fruit, nuts,
coconut, candied fruit, peanut brittle, fatty pastries,
doughnuts, and sad to say, chocolate.
Seasons (Okay) Ketchup, cheese, cream, tomato, white sauces,
soy sauce, chopped leaf herbs, jelly, honey, syrup,
balsamic vinegar.
(Avoid) Garlic, horseradish, chili powder, seed herbs
and spices, barbeque or cajun seasoning,
Worcestershire sauce.

I'll be the test sample.

I'm on day one of my soft diet, and proud to report that I haven't lost any weight yet. Gas is better, less rumbling, but tummy is still protruding grossly. (Think I may need more than a good diet to make that go away! In fact I think that going away might be right up there with Jesus walking on water.) One can hope though. Right? Can we say plastic surgery, tummy tuck, what's one more doctor in the operating room.

What a list!

Wow! Thanks for posting this list!!! I figured I better post something to *bump* this back to the front page listings. This is something all of us LIWs need!

I'm scheduled for the 14th of May, so I better get crackin' on the eating plan if I hope to lose these extra 60 pounds by surgery time...hahahahahaha...talk about walking on water! I've gained about 30 pounds since last October, even though I was working out for 1.5 hours every day before work AND riding my bike a minimum of 7 miles per day. I'm hoping that this surgery will be the beginning of recovering my health.

I'm not going to miss my *mother unit* one bit.

Peace of mind and a calm spirit to all!
