Is 27 too young..?

Hi, Im 27 and had an ablation early last year after a failed IUD and have been in agony the last few weeks with intense pain in my pelvic area. Nothing works accept Endone which I dont like to take unless I have to. I had an ultrasound a few days ago and my gyno says i have fibroids and uterine colic also possibly endometriosis and adenomyosis. My doc has been trying to avoid me having a hyst as he says i am very young and the risk of complications later ie. prolapse etc is therefore high.
I am now scheduled for a total vaginal hyst on 14th March as I have run out of options and the pain wont go away.
Im interested to know if there are any other ladies who have had a hyst at my age or similar.
Im kindda freaking out about the whole thing especially the recovery (ie. not being able to help out at home)

Re: Is 27 too young..?

I think that 27 is young, but I am 35 and think that is young too for a TVH, which I will be having Friday.

Everyone's circumstances are different and your health should dictate to you if it is right for you or not. Personally, I have endo and the pain has become too much. My doc had me try several other things before coming to the conclusion of TVH. Have you tried other options to manage the pain? Mirena, BC pills, Lupron??? I had to go through several months of all of those so that my doc could build a case for the Hyst. He wanted to air on the side of caution before jumping into the hyst, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, I am at the end of my rope and this is my only option.

Only you know what is right for you and it is your decision to make. I hope that you have a good doctor that you trust, as I am sure that you do.

It's a scary process, especially at a young age. It makes you questions a lot of things, regardless of the decisions you have already made in your life about having a family or not. This surgery is not to be taken lightly but with the support of all of the sisters on this site, it makes it a breeze (or close to it). I am in full panic mode for my trip tot he castle Friday morning but in the end, I know that it is about my health and feeling good again. I am looking forward to that. It's been a long time since I was able to get through a day without pain.

I wish you the best of luck! Just trust in yourself and your doctor and you will be good! Sending you lots of hugs!!!!!

Re: Is 27 too young..?

Heck, I was 45, and I thought I was too young. There are women here who have had hysterectomy who were quite a bit younger than you. You mentioned endometriosis. I just want to make sure you know that hysterectomy does not cure endometriosis. Several sisters have had to deal with endo post hysterectomy. The best thing you can do to treat your endo problems is see an endo specialist. The only way to be free of it is to have all implants excised, removing the reproductive organs is not the cure. I just wanted to make sure you have the facts before you make such a big decision. Best of luck to you!

Re: Is 27 too young..?

You are young for this (although I agree with Elsie - I had mine at 46 and I thought that was young!).

You may want to get other opinions on your condition and what is causing the pain. Are there other options? As Elsie said, a hysterectomy does not cure endo, and you would really need an endo specialist to remove the disease.

Re: Is 27 too young..?

I think any age is too young but if the surgery is medically nessasary than it is. I am 38 and I feel to young.

Re: Is 27 too young..?

Hi Seza! I agree with the rest of the ladies here when they say any age is too young.I was 27 years old when I had my TVH done. It's been almost two years for me and it was honestly one of the best decisions I ever made.It took me five years to make that decision!I had adenomyosis and was in constant pain.Nothing helped! After my TVH I made a full recovery and I got my life back.
