Hysterectomy and hair loss?!

I am 4 days post hysterectomy (kept both ovaries) and my hair is falling out like crazy! Has anyone else had this?
Not sure why it's happening.

I am so sorry that you are experiencing hair loss. It could very well be hormone imbalance due to the disruption that your ovaries had from surgery. Typically, it can take 4 to 6 weeks for the initial phase of healing. This is when muscle, tissue, ligaments and nerve-endings regrow then get back to their normal functions. Ovaries can be a bit tricky as they temporarily take a hiatus while they figure out how they want to operate and build a new source of blood for survival.

It took 6 weeks for mine to sputter a little bit then an additional 4 months before they fully registered that they were functioning.

Given what you are describing, put a call into your doctor to let s/he know what you are going through. It could be iron deficiency or even the potential need for an HRT. They will know the right questions to ask especially if they want to evaluate you in office sooner.

I have heard of anesthesia causing hair to fall out. Just a thought. I have found that I'm losing less hair now that I'm consuming collagen .

I also started noticing hair loss after my surgery, which my doctor attributed to stress. Another common cause of hair loss is a sluggish thyroid, which is apparently quite common following a hysterectomy, so I would recommend also having that checked. It can also be caused by a deficiency of iron, as Lisa Rene mentioned, or B vitamins, so you might want to investigate those two as well. Here's hoping you'll figure this out soon, so you can move forward with your recovery!
