Afraid of being put to sleep??

Hi everyone. My surgery will be May 23. I had twin girls 21 years ago and two pregnacies before them. I have always had hormone problems since my first child was born. After the twins were born I developed a fibroid in the uterus. I had just the one for about 19 years and no problems from it. Then a year or so ago I had another fibroid to develope and started having problems. The uterius started pressing on the bowels and the bladder herinated. So, we opted to just get it over with. I have heard that thats the worst thing I could do and then I've heard that it will make all the difference in the way I feel. I am just tired of the side effects of no hormore.....I did do hormone replacement but had side effect from that too..so I had to stop. It will be nice not to have nite sweets, hair loss, dry skin, insonima etc... It may sound crazy but I am more afraid of being put to sleep that having the surgery! I had a epiderial when I had a c-section with the twins.... That's also where they will do the hyst..surgery..Has anyone else had them to go thru an old incesion like this?

I'm worried about the anesthesia too, more so than the pain from the surgery. I even have crazy dreams about being put to sleep-- yes, in my sleep I worry about being put to sleep. You are not alone!

Afraid of being put to sleep??

I spent the five months before my op worrying about being put to sleep and was sick the night before with stress. Like you I had really big fibroids pressing on my internal organs. Now post op (TAH, kept one ovary) 5 weeks and doing really well. The anaesthetic was absolutely fine, the docs were talking about holidays with me and the next thing I knew I was awake in recovery. All that time worrying and over as quick as a flash. It's normal to worry but it really will be fine. I haven't had a c-section but had tubal surgery so had an old scar. It was cool, both scars now merge into one so look better. Good luck with your op.

Please don't worry about being put to sleep. It's really nothing at all. You'll just close your eyes and in what seems the next minute, you'll be opening them again.

I've had three surgeries and one medical procedure under anesthesia. One of the surgeries was four hours long. I didn't know a thing about it. As I said, it seemed that I just shut my eyes and then reopened them and it was all over.

Just hang in there. It'll be over before you know it and you'll be wondering what you were so afraid of.

Big s,

Lisa
