Antibiotics for me!!!

Well, I just got back from the emergency room with my twins.... Ones got strep throat, the other has a sinus infection. I told the ER doc that I was due for my hyst in 2 weeks, he immediately did a throat culture on me and he prescribed me E-mycin 500mg 3x daily... even though my culture was clean. I understand that it's better to be safe than sorry, but I'm not sure I'll even remember to take the dern things! Oh, well I guess I'll have to set an alarm or something. I don't want to get sick and have to wait longer. Now that the decision to have the surgery has been made and the date's set, I wish it were NOW!!!!!

Just wondering.... has anyone else been given antibiotics "just in case"?

Antibiotics for me!!!

Yep ... a week before my hyst, my young niece, who was visiting from out of town, came down with strep throat . I told my DR, and she prescribed a ten day course of antibiotics as a prophylactic measure. Surgery went off on schedule and I never got the strep.

One little tip.... yeast infections are extremely common in the early post op weeks. Being on antibiotics makes the odds go much higher, because the antibiotics kill off the 'helpful' bacteria that normally keep the yeastie beasties in check. You might want to take some type of probiotic every day for a few weeks, or eat yogurt with live active cultures... it can help prevent the yeast infections.

Good luck with your surgery!
