does anesthesia or hysterectomy procedure dictate time off work
Reading about others taking very little time off work. Just wondering how much of a role the type of anesthesia plays, or is it more related to type of hysterectomy?

does anesthesia or hysterectomy procedure dictate time off work
Based on reading numerous posts, I don't believe anesthesia has a role to dictate when you would go back to work.
The different types of surgery and how you heal will dictate when you go back to work. It also depends on the type of job you have if you are on your feet all day or have a desk job or a job that requires heavy lifting.
Generally speaking vaginal and laparoscopic hysterectomies including robot are usually same day outpatient or up to an overnight stay plus healing time will vary of weeks 2-5
Abdominal hysterectomy will have a longer hospital stay of 2-4 days and a longer healing time of around 6-8.
Again there so many factors involved with the type of surgery? Your healing time and your job.
I hope this helps. Good luck 🍀

Re: does anesthesia or hysterectomy procedure dictate time off work
Honestly, I think it depends more on how well you heal, the skill of your dr, and somewhat on attitude. I had tah/bso, which people said should take longer. My recovery was great and quick. It helped me a lot that I wasn't in pain and never needed to take narcotics. Also my dr was a proponent of active recoveries, which was perfect for me. She wanted me walking a mile by the end of the first week, and I did it the day after my surgery. I was out and about starting the day after I got home, living a semi normal life, apart from the restrictions I had. My dr told me that I could return to work whenever I felt up to it, and I really felt ready at 2 weeks, but had already been removed from the schedule, so I waited til week 3. Of course if I hated my job or something, I may have stayed out longer, but I was bored and wanted to get back. So it's possible to have a short recovery with a more invasive procedure and a long one with a less invasive.

Re: does anesthesia or hysterectomy procedure dictate time off work
It's mostly to do with how your particular body heals and the physical demands of your particular job, including the commute. I had abdominal surgery with a vertical incision. I went back to a part-time desk job at four weeks, except that handling 30-40 lb boxes in the storage area had to wait until six weeks.
I could have gone back at three weeks except that I walk a mile and a half to get to work, including a steep hill. I wanted to be sure that I could make the walk and still have enough energy to actually get work done once I arrived.
Anesthesia doesn't really have much to do with it. The anesthesia fog will clear within days, while it takes weeks for your body to heal. Surgery type has a bit to do with it, but so does the exact type of work you're having done during surgery. Do you need to have adhesions or scar tissue or endometriosis removed? Do you need repair work for prolapse?
Then there's physical condition going into surgery. Being active is a plus. If your body is already weakened by pain and heavy bleeding, that tends to make your recovery longer.

does anesthesia or hysterectomy procedure dictate time off work
Thanks, I am going to ask him to tighten things up just a bit, not sure if that's an option yet, but probably just removing uterus and my problematic cervix -gonna miss that I think. He said 3-4 weeks, I remember being shocked. In the 70s, mom was barely out of bed from her TVH only, so was feeling a lot of trepidation with 3-4!!

Request/demand more time if you need or want it. 3-4 weeks sounds ridiculous to me, even if you feel pretty good by then. I think more resting early on will help you in the long term.
