Vaginal cuff

Okay, I know what this is and how the dr makes it, but I have a couple of (probably silly) questions about it.

1. How big is it? All I keep thinking about is a penis-sized sock thing.

2. What keeps it up inside me? Does it have its own muscles? One again, I'm getting this sock image.

Less than 48 hours until I'm a princess!

Vaginal cuff

GOOD QUESTION! I was worried about this too, pre-op. I'm so glad I thought to ask my OBG, even though my surgery ended up being kind of a rushed emergency.
I asked my doctor to suture the vaginal cuff to the ligaments that were holding my uterus in place. Now I feel secure and won't worry about vaginal prolapse. If you don't ask for extra support you might not get it!

Vaginal cuff

It is a little graphic but go to pelvicfloor.com and it shows pictures of how they form the vaginal cuff and how they sew everything together to hold things in place. When you go to that site click on Image Library, click YES an then find where it says Vaginal Hysterectomy. I think the pictures are very interesting and I wish I had seen them before my Hysterectomy. It really helps you understand what they are actually doing inside of you!

HurricaneTina ,

I agree with wizcrone8 - definately ask you doctor - although as I found out - not all doctors perform that procedure - I hope your doctor was already planning on the procedure for you. I did see a statistic somewhere that only a small percentage like 3% of women have vaginal prolapse from hysterectomy (women who already had prolapse present at the time of hysterectomy have around a 30% chance of vaginal prolapse)
Good Luck in you surgery.
