Pre op bowel Prep! bleck!

Ok, I have NEVER done one of these for any surgery and I'm so freaked out!!!!! If you have done one, what kind did you do or reccomend, my dr. is letting me choose. Since i am having the open Surgery they are making me do it! Someone please tell me what to expect.

my surgery is the same day as yours!!!I as well am having a TAH my dr is letting me do laxitives instead of enemas I am also only doing liquids on sunday!! hope that helped!!

Type of laxative can make a difference. Dulcolax cramped me up terrible. I have friend that uses Senokot lax because it is more natural. When I've had post op trouble, MD recommended magnesium citrate (you can buy cheap at drugstore, some dollar type stores) and then keeping up with stool softeners. I'd ask what is the most gentle one yet can still get the job done. It will help if you are on fluids before that and then light diet couple of days before you start just fluids.

I had to do a Magnesium Citrate and clear fluid diet the day before. Then on the day of I had to do a medicated douche and 2 enemas.

I couldnt quite get the enemas in correctly so they let me slide on that.

The magnesium tastes so bad but it works wonders.

I am on a clear liquid diet all day Sunday. At 1 pm I have to take 4 Ducolax tablets. At 2 pm I have to mix a full container of Miralax with 64 oz of Gatorade or Crystal Light and drink over a 2 hour period. I do not like Gatorade or Crystal Light, but I guess I will learn to like it Sunday.

This is also my first time doing a bowel prep and I have been reading other post and using google to make sure I have the right clear liquids to drink all day.

My surgery was the 1st time I ever had to do a bowel prep as well & boy was I freaked out!!!!
I was on a clear liquid diet (no red or purple drinks), and at 2pm the day before my surgery I "chugged" down 4oz of lemon-lime mag. citrate..it wasn't bad or good just blah, then I took a big drink of water followed by a piece of gum (check with your doc 1st)..then 2 hours later did the same.
It's not great but its not bad I was SO proud of myself for doing it. GOOD LUCK!!!

My doctor told me to use Magnesium Citrate. I got it at walgreens and it was 2 bucks. Along with a liquid diet it should be a fun day before my surgery.

ok so is this painful? Is it quick?

My Dr had me do the Magnesium Citrate, I bought it at Walgreens for like 1.99 a bottle. He had me purchase two 10 oz bottle. On a liquid diet all day then at 3 I had to drink one whole 10 oz bottle and then again at 6 pm. Let me tell ya, it will clean you out! No doubt!! After Mid-night nothing at all. No liquids or anything. You will be fine. You won't feel a thing once you go under. My recovery in the hospital was not so bad. Wish you all the best of luck for a speedy recovery. Just remember everyone is different, we heal differently and try to listen to what your body is telling you! Don't rush it and please listen to your Dr. and get someone to help you, you will need it.
