Is it okay to put neosporin on incision?

Is it okay to put neosporin on the incision? I am nine weeks post op and still have a little spot where it is leaking drops of fluid and not healed. I want it to heal and do what I can to help it. I am behind in healing because I had a couple of infections and am trying to do what I can to not get another. TY for the advice sisters!

Re: Is it okay to put neosporin on incision?

Yes, neosporin should be just fine on your incision. The only time you really should NOT do it is if your skin is sealed with DermaBond as the petroleum jelly base will dissolve it. Good luck!

It is what the hospital did when I went in cause it wouldnt seal. I had stitches and staples thou...hope it gets better

Re: Is it okay to put neosporin on incision?

Not to scare u but just sharing my experience, I put neosporin on my incisions just thinking to advance the healing process after a day I noticed all my incisions were red around the cut AND it spread. My stomach are was awful to look at. Dr gave me steroid cream that didnt work then was put on a steroid dose pack, which did help ALOT!. I went to see my dermatologist who confirmed an allergic reaction. SHe said continue the dose pack and gave me an ointment to apply 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off. SHe said DO NOT use that cream at all ever in my life lol. SHe did mention that she is seeing this more that neosporin and triple antibiotic creams are creating allergic reactions to healing incisions and wounds GO FIGURE. Good luck and take care. One thing I can say is that I never experienced itching with my incisions, it drove me crazy at times OMG! even b4 that cream incident. Merry Christmas!

Re: Is it okay to put neosporin on incision?

Please do not put anything on your incision unless your own DR tells you to. Most will say no - just leave it open to the air and let it heal.
