It doesn't have to be as bad as you think it may be...

Ladies....like so many have said before me and I can now say from my own experience.....The waiting is the worst of it.

I had and LAVH on 1/4 and today I am feeling pretty good. A little twinge here and there today but no pain meds and no naps. Granted I am not running any marathons but I been going out to dinner and staying up all day. Haven't taken a full dose of pain meds since I got home and only one pill a day for the previous 3 days. The only real challenges I have had are sitting for long periods of time and the scarey first BM. Today the sitting wasn't even a problem. So good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Dont forget

that having a vaginal hyst and a tah are two different things. A tah your abdomen is cut. you usually have staples, and it is quite uncomfortable. I had 28 staples with a vertical incision. also just because you keep your ovaires doesnt mean you dont end up with a hormone crash. I did, because as the doc explained, your uterus also gives off hormones, which is being removed. everyone is different, some have children, demanding families, and financial problems. some dont. It is good to be positive, but sometimes no matter how positive problems arise. If the power of positive thinking cured illnesses, i guess we wouldnt need hysterectomies. follow your docs advice, and dont forget, no matter vaginal or abdominal, you have had major surg. and hundreds of internal stitches. carol

It doesn't have to be as bad as you think it may be...

Thanks for the post! I'm having my surgery this Wednesday and am a little nervous, but I know that's to be expected. I'm looking forward to getting all this behind me and getting on the road to recovery. Every woman I've personally spoken to who has had a hysterectomy, has told me it's amazing how much better they have felt since and one RN told me I don't realize just how badly I have felt, and won't, until later. If all that's true, and according to your post-op story, then there's a lot to look forward to!! Thanks again.
