Preparing for Surgery

Hello sisters,
If I had it to do all over I would prepare at home before surgery differently. I would clean my house so that it would of held up better during my recovery period.

I live alone so I would of made sure my animals would of been boarded for a few weeks. I had to pick my dogs up earlier then I had anticipated. I could of stood a few more days without them because I wasn't getting around all that good.

Also I would of made sure my laundry was done up for at least a few weeks ahead of time.

If you live alone have someone come stay with your or go stay with them. I had an abdominal incision and I was pretty weak for a week and stayed with family.

This is only my opinion, but I would of prepared my house and my home recooperation a little better than I did.

Preparing for Surgery

Thank you for posting these suggestions for any ladies who live alone.

I think many of us didn't really realize just how weak we would be after our surgeries. I know I thought I would be able to do so much, but all I could do was lay around, and take VERY short walks!

To all Ladies In Waiting, please keep in mind that most of us are pretty much unable to do ANYTHING our first week or so home, so prepare ahead!

pre-op jitters and ignorance!

My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday May 22 - this coming Tuesday! I go tomorrow to the Dr. for his final countdown talk and then to the hospital for the pre-op sticks and probes. This would have been done a month ago but had to fight the insurance company - wanted me to have a couple of years of other types of treatments which I found out usually does not help, costs lots of money and you end up with having the hysterectomy anyway!
I am a bit concerned with the surgery - have had surgeries before but this sounds like the MOTHER of them all! LOL Was not too nervous until tonight - now have insomnia and hate that it is still 4-5 days away. A little encouragement would be nice - I am a single mom with really no one around to talk to.

Thanks - Carol

Have someone there with you to help out

Dear Carol, Have someone help you out the first week or so after your surgery. I had a TAH and all I did was lay around rest and sleep. I was thank full that I had someone cook for me and do my laundry.

preparing for surgery

Thanks for the encouragement. My sister is coming down a few days later - my teenager will be here with me and she is pretty good about rising to the occasion. I am getting ready to leave the house to go for my pre-op visit and the pre-admin stuff at the hospital - joy, joy to get stuck and examed! Just starting to feel very nervous about all of this. Any words of "it will be ok" are appreciated! LOL Thanks
