Abdominal pain 6 years after TAH

I had a total abdominal hysterectomy in 2006. My ob-gyn had found a mass on my ovary (the reason for the TAH), but it turned out to non-cancerous. The surgery went fine and I healed quickly and everything was fine for the next 4+ years.

A couple of years ago, however, I started getting a sharp cramping pain in my lower right abdomen when I bent over (usually in connection with bowel movements). It stopped when I stood up and stretched out.

In the beginning, it only happened every 3-4 months but now it seems to be happening more frequently and the pain lasts longer. I've been reading about adhesions and wondered if my symptoms are typical for something like that, or if it sounds like something else. I would appreciate any advice you all can give me. Thanks!

Re: Abdominal pain 6 years after TAH

Margaret,
The pain might be adhesions or maybe it is gastro intestinal related. Adhesions are a difficult thing to diagnose. It is best to be checked out and make sure that nothing else is going on. Have you discussed these pains with your doctor? I would suggest that you start keeping a journal of your symptoms.

When I continued to have pain after my tah/bso I assumed they were from adhesions and everyone <not my doctor> advised that my pain was from adhesions. Turns out I had many other things going on, including gastro intestinal problems.

I would go see my doc instead of assuming it is adhesions. As Kim said, it is hard to diagnose adhesions. They thought I had them and turned out it was IC and also my Crohn's. You may need to see a gastroenterologist. Sending hugs
