so emotional
Help, I am so emotional right now. Am single mom of 17 year old boy, am having TVH next tuesday so took this week off to get house ready and christmas shop and to enjoy myself but instead have been emotional wreck last 3 days. I let little things upset me that shouldn't. Got call from principal at school over minor incident with son and just start crying instead of handling it. I am so ready to just have this over with so can concentrate on life again and stop crying. Anybody else a crying wreck before their surgery?

so emotional
I can empathize with you. I have a little over 2 weeks to go until my surgery and the closer it gets, the more I find myself crying over the stupidest things. Today, the hospital called me to get my insurance information, schedule pre-op blood work, etc., and after I hung up I just started crying. Later, one of my coworkers came into my office to tell me something and I thanked her for all of her help and starting crying.
I'm assuming that this is "normal"---we're dealing with a lot of different emotions, from relief that something will finally be done to relieve my symptoms to terror that the "something" is major surgery (TAH/BSO in my case).
I'm planning to work until the day before surgery because I'm afraid that if I have too much time at home and to myself, I'll be even worse. The less time I have to think, the better.
Hang in there, I'm sure that we'll be better once we get to the other side and have the surgery and immediate recovery behind us. Everyone keeps saying that the waiting is the hardest part and I guess we're truly experiencing that.
A sister who is a crying wreck, right along with you,
Gayle

so emothional
Thanks , here i started crying again just reading your response but I had smile on face while crying. It is nice to know I'm not alone.
I love this board. It has really helped me a lot. My advice to others for are awaiting surgery, Do not take week off before surgery, too much thinking and crying time. Stay at work , you will be glad you did.
Thanks again

so emotional
Hi, Ladies in Waiting,
Your crying jags are so normal! It is an extremely anxious time and your nerves are on overload while anticipating this surgery. I too was an emotional wreck. There were times when I felt very brave and moved about as surefooted as ever, but then out of the blue would come a swoosh of emotion filled with anxiety, frustration and fear. I believe that it is just a part of coming to the reality of the surgery and knowing that you will soon be going to the castle. It's hard to imagine no matter how much you read just exactly how it will be, I understand. I can tell you that for me my imagination made it much worse than it actually was. I remember waking up from surgery just elated that I had made it through and I had my own little celebration lying in my bed....thinking "yes, its over, I did it!". In retrospect, I now can laugh at how nervous I was. Yes, I was in pain and yes, recovery was soooo boring and had its down days, but all in all it was a very do-able surgery. Try to keep busy and distracted while waiting, remember the statistics are in your favor, have faith that you will be taken care of, dig deep for patience and very soon you will be celebrating too!
I wish you both a smooth and uneventful time,
Warm wishes,
Lynn/Cappy in Chat

crying spells
No, you aren't alone!! My surgery is next week, and I am a bit prone to crying spells right now. You need to relax, allow yourself to be a little bit emotional, just don't overdue it. We are all facing a new challenge!! And, we will all be o.k. It's just that no one likes to face surgery, and it really throws your mind for a loop! You are naturally touchy right now, there is a lot of stress and pressure building up inside. Just try to do things that relax you. Take a long bath, treat yourself to a special lunch, workout, or whatever helps you relieve it and keep your mind off of the surgery!! You are being too hard on yourself! I know there are things we all try to accomplish before surgery, I've been doing that, too. But, the house will still be there, and no one has died yet from a messy house! A 17 yr. old son can be a great help!! I hope he will be there for you. In just a matter of time, the worst will be over, and we will both be feeling much better!! I'll keep you in my prayers, please do the same for me!! Kim
