What will happen to my ovaries and eggs?

Okay, this may be a stupid question, but what happens to my ovaries and eggs now? I'm keeping my ovaries and just curious if I will still ovulate or anything. Also, kind of a weird question, but what do they do with the uterus/ cervix/ ovaries after they remove them?

Not a stupid question at all and one that has been asked before and will be asked again!

If all goes well, your ovaries will continue to function which is the the whole reason for keeping them. This means they will produce hormones, go through ovulation, and release an egg each month. The only thing that will change is there will be no uterus to cramp and no endometrial lining will need to be shed.

PMS can even continue! For some of us PMS is worse post hysterectomy--for me it is because I am no longer on birth control pills to manage my cycle, for others it will be a bit better.

When an egg is released each month, your body will simply reabsorb it.

As far as what happens to your organs after surgery, they are all sent to pathology and then there are very specific regulations for disposing of them.
