5 weeks post hysterectomy: Feeling frustrated with recovery!

I had a total hysterectomy 5 weeks ago today. I have been working part-time for the last week and a half and would like to increase my hours, but my stomach in the area above my incision gets sore and hurts after working for about 3 hours. I am running out of leave time and would really like to increase my hours. I'm not sure if I should be pushing myself and trying to work more hours if I am uncomfortable. Has anyone had a similar experience? Have you kept working while you're uncomfortable? Any suggestions for speeding along my recovery? I feel like I have reached a plateau in the last week or so and I'm not seeing improvement.

Thanks!

Re: Feeling frustrated with recovery!

I went back to work at after 8 weeks off. and I was uncomfortable for a while. I found wearing stretchy pants and flat shoes really helped a lot. I took breaks when needed. When at home, I went to bed earlier as I was exhausted. I also put a heating pad on my tummy to help with the soreness. You can also try an ice pack. It does get better.

Re: Feeling frustrated with recovery!

6 weeks post op and with a vertical incision (ugh). This heading caught my attention as I am surprised at how long recovery is taking. I went back to work today 4 hr/day for the next week, then plan to go full days. I mostly find sitting up straight uncomfortable. At home, I am usually more comfortable standing off and on or in a recliner with a heating pad. Sometimes ice feels better. I keep getting weird twinges of pain, just out of the blue. DO NOT overdo it with cleaning, bending, lifting! I really messed up last weekend and it has set me back about 2 weeks, I feel. It feels like all my abdominal muscles are constantly pulling. I also had some very slight spotting, which had not happened at all following surgery until this cleaning frenzy. I still find the little pillow the hospital sent with me useful while driving and if I know I'll be sitting awhile. I too wear stretchy pants and flats. Walking usually feels good. I just don't want to overdo it after last Saturday's setback.
