Scared of bleeding to death

This is why I am scared of bleeding to death during surgery.
Ok, during my 2nd pregnancy, almost the entire time, my doctor promised me a vaginal birth. I had a c-section with my oldest and I didn't want to go through that again.
Well, they did an u/s a week before I had him. I have a lot of scar tissue on my uterus from 4 miscarriages and the c-sections. My doctor said that they didn't anticipate the baby being so big. He was 8lbs. 9oz. He said, "This is a big baby. And you have a lot of scar tissue on your uterus from the miscarriages and the previous c-section. With his size, if you deliver vaginally, you will hemorrage because of all the scar tissue." So another c-section it was.
That's why I'm scared of bleeding to death. I'm scared that when they remove my uterus, that I'm going to start hemorraging.
I will be SO GLAD when I go to my appt. on the 17th so I can discuss all of this with my doctor!

Scared of bleeding to death

Hi, don't let the scare with your c/s scare you now. I am a Labor and Delivery nurse and the 2 surgeries are completly different. The risk for bleeding with a c/s was because your uterus was so distended with such a big baby, that along with the increased blood volume related to pregnancy increases your risk.
Well, this time, the blood volume is not an issue and even if your uterus is enlarged, there is no placent in there, which is where the bleeding from a c/s comes from. The adhesions and scar tissue will certainly make it more difficult for you doc, but should not increase your risk of bleeding, not like with your c/s.
I did bleed with my c/s, and received 3 units of blood, but had no problem with the hyst.

You will do great!!!! The risk is only slightly increased now, not at all like it was with your c/s.

Good luck,
Toni

Scared of bleeding to death

Thanks! I didn't have to receive any blood with either of my c-sections. So maybe I won't have to with this surgery either.
