Getting better all the time!!!

I went into my hysterectomy SURE that I'd be one of the quick ones, the patient who sprung back into action in record time, but I don't think I understood the concept of what a major surgery this was.

I had a few complications, but nothing that time and patience and taking it slow and easy couldn't make better.

This coming Friday will be 12 weeks out for me and yes, it has taken me this long to begin to feel like me again. But, it's been worth it.

My 3rd thru 5th weeks were the most trying, and sometimes the exhaustion hits me like a wall, but I've begun to take my life back step by step and I feel better than I've felt in a very, very long time.

I spotted and dribbled and am still dealing with a hematoma that just requires simple rest at times, but I know there's a beautiful end in sight.

I've lost weight, but more importantly, I've become more conscious of my health and since that big old floppy uterus is no longer bulging in my abdomen, my tummy is flatter and I don't have the indigestion or hemmorhoid issues I had before.

I haven't noticed the swelly belly the way some other princesses have, but it does occasionally get a little tender.

Sex the first time was disappointing and nerve-racking, but I was so worried about it hurting something or hurting me or feeling odd to him that there was no way I could enjoy myself. However, the second time made up for the first and all the sex I missed since May. I have high, high hopes for all the future bouts.

I do have sleepless nights every now and then, but I did before the surgery, too.

One of my favorite things is passing the "feminine products" aisle in Target, Walmart, or grocery store and I discreetly stick my tongue out at the aisle and whisper to myself "NEENER NEENER". I know it's silly, but it's such a small joy.

I'm just here to tell you, it does get better. The spotting does go away eventually, the pulling and tugging pangs go away, sex gets better as you relax and get more comfortable with yourself. It really does just take time. For some, it's not a great amount of time and for others perhaps a little more.

But, it's worth it and so are you.

I had to laugh when I read your post...

...because I could have written it!

Oh, yes! I, too, thought I could be bionic woman and bounce right back! Six weeks recovery time? HA, I laughed at that!

Well, so much for the laughing....I needed every bit of those six weeks. If I could, I'd extend my time off work, but that won't be possible.

I feel fine at six weeks - however, I do suffer from the dreaded swelly belly. Oh my, come afternoon if I'm on my feet a lot you'd think I'm about to give birth!

And I absolutely know what you mean by passing "that aisle". I just have to grin when I walk past it!

Take care, and its great to hear you doing well!

slyragz, congratulations on feeling better! I had my surgery the day before yours and feel great, too. The amount of energy it takes to heal during those first weeks took me by surprise as well. Imagine having to rest after walking around the block! I'm also finding that my tummy gets sore at times, mostly when I've been exercising in some way, but things are definitely looking good.
