2 weeks post hysterectomy - GI issues? Nipples sore?

Hi sisters!
I am 2wks post op to the day- full hysterectomy - kept ovaries.
I felt great while on pain mess and then I wanted to wean off because I found myself getting constipated... And every time I eat, it's painful and j can feel stuff going down , and finally when I do pass with help of colace, 3x/day, senecot, mirolax, yogurt, prune juice, I was so enervated and depleted, I relapsed into vein in bed all day Friday/Sat

Every time I eat, it is painful in my gut to have bowl movement even when it ha soft. Anyone else have this issue? Are intestines settling in an empty area where uterus used to be?

And why are my nipples so sore and hard?

Sorry for so many typos! I am using the iPhone

Re: 2 weeks post hysterectomy - GI issues? Nipples sore?

I am almost 3 weeks post surgery, I can tell you that I've been having aweful bowel issues. I am cramping badly and then it's either constipation or diarrhea. It's been quite painful for me. I wish I knew also if this is normal? As for nipple soreness, they are more sensitive than sore. Wish I had more answers for you ...take care

Re: 2 weeks post hysterectomy - GI issues? Nipples sore?

I had constipation problems before so after is no surprise. It took me 9 months to find a combo of things without using a laxative to work. Then I had a colonoscopy the first of May and I have yet to get back there. If I have to strain at all then the perineal area hurts the rest of the day. (this is due to dryness due to lack of estrogen). I am not constipated per say - because of the stool softener it is soft, my bowels just don't like to work.

The first 6 months I had to watch what I ate. Gassy foods would cause pain in the colon. After surgery my doctor said the colon settles down in the right side - which is where my pain was. He said things are tender and healing in there, the colon is probably hitting those areas.

Much of the things you are taking work by absorbing water from your body. With all that it would not surprise me if you become dehydrated, that is why drinking plenty of water is important. I tried miralax but it took 6 days to work, then another 3-6 day which I could not deal with. It also gave me horrible gas and after 2 weeks made me dizzy (known side effect). Prune juice - again - gave me horrible gas. That horrible gas just made the pain from my colon hitting the tender spots worse.

I still take 2 stool softeners a day, every other day one of those includes a mild laxative. If need be I use milk of Magnesium which surprisingly the GI doctor when telling her before the colonoscopy said it was fine as long as not every day. I also take Metamucil which helps with fiber.

2 weeks post hysterectomy - GI issues? Nipples sore?

Wow! Thanks for your replies! So do we have to be on laxatives and stool softener the rest of our lives- long term? Or is it only if we had this problem even before surgery? Is this GI issue particular to the hysterectomy?

Re: 2 weeks post hysterectomy - GI issues? Nipples sore?

Majority of women have no problem getting back to their normal, so no they are not on stool softeners or laxatives the rest of their lives. I think for some of us other things factor in that make it more difficult. All the tricks I used before no longer work. It is frustrating.

To be honest, I am tired of trying to find that 'right' combo again. Hopefully you will not find it that hard and will be back to your normal sooner rather than later.
