No sign of dissolving stitches

Hello sisters, I am at the end of my 4th week since my SAH and see no sign of dissolving stitches that I keep reading about. My doctor said that's what she used. Should I be worried? Thanks.

Re: No sign of dissolving stitches

I wouldn't worry. I only saw one tiny little piece of stitch fiber at about 4 weeks. I could easily have missed it. I think my body just absorbed them.

Not seen a thing either; I'd like to think it's all over and done with by now though!!!

Re: No sign of dissolving stitches

I'm at 6 1/2 weeks and I just finally started seeing the fibers yesterday. The doctor has said the sutures aren't dissolving when he's examined me, so I knew they were still there. I was a bit surprised when I saw them yesterday.

Re: No sign of dissolving stitches

I have NEVER had 'dissolving stitches' actually dissolve- I have always had to have them removed just like regular stitches.

Re: No sign of dissolving stitches

I only saw some at 6 weeks and only a few. The discharge stopped a few days later.

Re: No sign of dissolving stitches

I am just past the 4 week mark and keep expecting to see some but nothing so far. When she checked me last Tuesday she said she could see the knots so I guess they are still there.

Re: No sign of dissolving stitches

Shay01 - I am not a doctor but I would be surprised if you saw stitches. You had the same surgery I did so that means we both kept our cervixes. The stitches are way up past the cervix inside the abdominal cavity. I don't think that they would slip past the cervix and down through the vagina. Our bodies simply reabsorb the stitches when they dissolve.

Ladies who have a vaginal cuff have the stitches at the top of the vagina and there is nothing to stop them from sliding down the vaginal canal once they partly dissolve so that is why some ladies do see threads.
