14 days post op. Depression, etc!

I'm 2 weeks post-op from a LAVH with Ovarian preservation. I am 28 years old & have no children. I had the LAVH because of Stage 1a Cervical Cancer. The pain is getting better, but I still get dizzy spells when I do too much & the dreaded swellybelly. The pathology report finally came back a few days ago & I don't have to get... Chemo or Radiation because we caught it in the nick of time!
I've been very depressed lately & it seems like no one understands what I'm going through. I've been crying a lot, had a fair share of mood swings, & I'm so tired all the time. Going to the bathroom is still extremely uncomfortable. I'm going crazy from sexual frustration, but I'm scared to death of what will happen if I have an orgasm while I'm still healing. I've had nightmares every night since the surgery about blackmail. rape, & my innards spilling out of my vagina...really gory stuff! It comforts me a little that I am not alone, but this depression/anxiety seems to be eating away at my willpower.
Thank golly I found this website! You girls seem so very supportive of each other!

Re: 14 days post op. Depression, etc!

(((((((HUGS))))))) Oh hunny. You certainly are going through a rough time. Wish I could be there to visit and comfort you in person. I am so sorry you are struggling with depression and anxiety on top of all you have already been through. I am your sister in depression/anxiety. I have struggled with it all of my life and it is not an easy mountain to climb. Things that help me and to talk about how I am feeling with friends or family wether it be online or in person. Getting outside for some fresh air and seeing the beauty of nature and the wild life thriving all around me. Talking to God just like he is standing right next to me helps too. I too have truly graphic dreams and they can scare the hell out of me. I guess it is our fears and worries working themselves out. You are a beautiful wonderful person who deserves happiness and joy. Hang in there. we are all here for you .

Re: 14 days post op. Depression, etc!

please keep posting this is a wonderful site and everyone is here for you. the nightmares you are describing could be from pain meds if you still have some of the heavy duty stuff in your system. try and get out even if it is just a ride in the car to get a coffee, or a short walk at the mall. i think it is very isolating being at home and recovering. hugs to you, it will get better, somedays seem hopeless and then the next day you can't remember why you were so upset.

Re: 14 days post op. Depression, etc!

Dear BooksRfriends2,
Congrats on your good report. You faced the "C" beast and have won! This was bound to have weighed heavy on your mind the last few months. Couple anxiety about cancer and your physical discomfort and it is completely understandable you are depressed. Be gentle with yourself. You are recovering mentally, emotionally and physcially from an enormous life challenge. Be gentle with your thoughts and try to nurture your body. I agree that being outside in fresh air and sunshine is a wonderful remedy. Lean on us. It can be difficult for friends and family to fully understand the stages of your recovery. Sending prayers to you.

Re: 14 days post op. Depression, etc!

Thank you for all of the kind words. I went for a walk outside today and it felt so refreshing. The sun was shining and it made the snow and ice surrounding me sparkle. I came back home rosy cheeked and feeling better than I have all week. Thank you for the suggestion.

Re: 14 days post op. Depression, etc!

Well the good news is you caught it early and can be very thankful for that.
However, it's very traumatic experience both mentally and physically for anyone to go through. Remember God is always their and you are never alone and you have friends and families. Most don't understand unless they have been through it before and then you meet some that are like well I did so you'll be just fine with no sympathy at all. That's my mother.
I started crying and feeling alone and hurt because most family and friends didn't really seem to care. My husband is not emotionally supportive anyways so I stayed in my room for almost a week afterwards and he barely spoke to me.
I too have felt depressed and I do take anxiety medication just so that I can sleep at night. The main reason is I do to much all the time and I can never shut down my brain which can keep me up for days. Depression has came on since the hysterectomy and I believe it's because of the emotional and physical effects it does on your body and of course the hormone changes. Plus if you don't have a good support network then it's so much harder for you to get through it.
The pain meds give me nightmares as well and always have. I have asked the doctor for different kind this time which is Norco as it's not as stong but at least I don't see dead people like when I've taken vicoden or percacet. You must eat lightly and drink lots of fluids and take your time getting up and that will help with the dizzy spells. don't do anything but walk a little, sit, shower, eat, and maybe try working on your hair or make up sitting. Nothing big as you pay for it and could potentially damage your body.

I'm having a hard time having a bowel movement and have to eat liquids or nearly to have one and if I don't I have to take miralax because it hurts so bad to have one when it's hard. I just got over the urination problems like a day ago and today is my 11th day Post OP.

I don't have sex that often anyways but now and terrified that it's going to hurt since they took the cervix and all and not sure about all of that but we will see. I have had more increased desire to have sex since having the surgery which seems kinda odd but it will be at least 4 more weeks until I try anything.

We are all here for you and remember your never alone and this is just a rough patch and we as women can get through anything!!

Hope this helps!!
