TMI. going to the bathroom.
I had surgery on a Monday and did not have a BM until that Friday. I took stool softeners every day, Milk of Magnesia and drank lots of water. I finally had to use a suppository on that Friday morning and had results in less than 15 minutes.

TMI. going to the bathroom.
It must be something to do with everything being knocked out of kilter! Lets face it the internal organs have to be moved aside to get at the target area and then take some time to settle into place again. Must have a memory of being 'abused'.
Under usual circumstances I stilled needed assistance because of the meds I was taking and got myself to a reasonably acceptable state of affairs. However if I ate something a bit out of the ordinary I could go one way or the other!
I know when I was running it wasn't an issue except to hope I made it home in time!

TMI. going to the bathroom.
I think it was either 7 or 8 days for me after my TAH, and I didn't even do a bowel prep! Remember, if your bowels were completely cleaned out, and you've only been on solid food a few days and aren't eating much, you may not need to go for a while. There's lots of intestine for the food to travel through, after all.
A call to the doctor couldn't hurt if you're concerned, to be on the safe side. But really, if you're drinking lots of water, eating healthy (and producing gas), you'll probably go when your body is ready to go. If it gets uncomfortable, though -- call for sure.
