LSH -- advice out there?

I know the LSH provecure has a faster recovery time but how fast? I am 4 days post op -- procedure was out patient and uneventful but I do not know what to expect now -- I'm still exhausted even at sitting up for long --only real issue other than moderate discomfort is water retention (several pounds additonal with came home with me)

When did you all feel back to normal? When did your weight (and stomach) go back to normal?

Thanks

LSH -- advice out there?

Me too Prof! I just got home this AM, surgery was yesterday AM. Did you find that you were less sore if you kept walking? I'm afraid I'm overdoing it today, but I just feel lots better if I keep moving....

LSH -- advice out there?

Hi,
I didn't have one, but seem to see lots of you all around so I hope you will hear from some soon. What I notice a lot is that members who have the LSH tend to think they didn't have a serious surgery done and I don't believe that to be true. You still had major surgery done and need to let your body heal. Listen to what it tells you and don't do too much too soon.
Here is a link that gives a lot of info on it the LSH . It is probably more than you need to know now that you have had your surgery, but it has good info on recovery as well.
Take care, I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

LSH -- advice out there?

I had LSH on March 29th, so my 6 weeks will be this coming Wednesday. I went back to work just shy of 3 weeks and I really wish I hadn't. It set the expectation that I would continue to be there and in truth I still don't feel 100 percent. I suspect that if I'd actually rested the whole six weeks I'd feel a LOT better now. I think that I probably have suffered less than someone with a TAH (based on my own previous laparotomy experience) but I definitely pushed myself way too hard.

I would say that I actually feel OK as long as I don't do much and that has been true since a few days after surgery. I also knew within hours if I'd done too much during the first 2-3 weeks and it would make me need to rest for 1-2 days following.

LSH -- advice out there?

Hi TheProfessor,

I also had a LSH. I can suggest eating healthy, drinking lots of water to prevent a UTI and doing some light walking, when you feel up to it. I found walking the best exercise the first 6 weeks in post-op. I experienced some mild cervical twinges the first 6 weeks where my cervix was healing. I just took over-the-counter tylenol for any discomfort after I finished my prescription meds.

My swelly belly ended at about 10 days. I went back to work at 2 weeks with my Dr's okay. 3 weeks would have been nicer and I was needed back. At work, I just delegated a lot, did no lifting and I took frequent breaks.

In my opinion, the big thing is to take it easy as much as you can the first 6 weeks in post-op. If something sounds like too much, it probably is. We LSH ladies can look great on the outside and we are still healing on the inside. In post-op, I found I would have a ~great~ day and then I might have a ~one step~ back day. I didn't have the energy. It can be part of the healing process and we all progress at different speeds.

Best wishes with your recovery. I am still very pleased I was a candidate for a LSH.

Mary

LSH -- advice out there?

History Lady,
How many pain meds did you get? I only got 30 percosets and Motrin. I think I'll be OK with the Motrin, but 2 percs every 4-6 hours - those 30 won't get very far. I don't want to sound like a druggy, I just sure don't want to run out if I need them. What do you think, will I be done with them in a couple of days? (surgery was 5/5 - Friday)

LSH -- advice out there?

Not History Lady, but - I had surgery on a Wednesday and was released from the hospital on Thursday. I used the pain killers Thursday and Friday on Friday night I started with Advil and have only taken narcotics twice since then (I'm at 5.5 weeks). Generally I take two advil and 1 tylenol 2-3 times a day.

LSH -- advice out there?

I am almost 4 months post-op from my LSH .......and yes, while the LSH is a less INVASIVE surgery,it is still MAJOR surgery......Many LSH sisters interpret that as "oh well,I`ll be back to normal in a week".............NOT TRUE for the majority of us who have had this surgery......I had a lot of cramping for those first 2-3 weeks and just felt "blah" very fatigued and not myself........I went back to my job as a fitness instructor at 4 weeks (doing low impact and lifting less than half the weight I was before my surgery) and I STILL hurt for the first 2 weeks back.....and I`ve been working in the fitness industry for NINE yrs............I didn`t go back to my job at the hospital that I work at for another 3 weeks after I had gone back to the gym.....and WHEW ,was I TIRED for those first couple of weeks back!!!!!! My point is ;listen to your own body(and your Dr.`s advice) you will know when you`ve done too much or need to rest more...........Make sure you follow your body`s advice!!! Not doing so will only prolong the healing time.............Best of luck to all sisters with their recoveries Blessings,Renee

i got the same amount of perks as u did and i am a little under 2 weeks post op. i stopped taking the perks soo much only in the morning and then at bedtime to help me sleep comfortably. if u ration them then they can go pretty far. i still have 2 left. and then i will start using the motrin i was lsh with partial ovary removal lost my left one. i still have minor pain during the day but if u just rest and dont walk too much and dont over do it u wont need the perks as much. and no you dont sound like a druggie
