Just for Fun: What Was the Worst Thing You Ate at the Castle?

After having been on a clear liquid diet for three full days, I would have eaten just about anything and loved it! And I really can't complain too much about the food and service at my castle. It was done hotel style with a menu and room service so that was nice. However, I thought I would order this light little side salad of peach halves topped with a bit of cottage cheese. Sounds healthy, right? Imagine my dismay when room service arrived with my meal and a side dish of a giant bowl of cottage cheese topped by two tiny slices of canned peaches. Yuck!

So what did you get at your castle?

Cheers,

Cindy

Just for Fun: What Was the Worst Thing You Ate at the Castle?

I had my surgery at 9AM and around 5:30 PM they brought me dinner. Chicken with vegetables and rice. I had also ordered a cheese plate as an afternoon snack (even though the nurse didn't want me to have food). I needed it as I had, at that point, been without food for 14 hours and I am hypoglycemic, so I was getting shaky.

Anyway, I ate a little cheese and then the dinner tray showed up. I wasn't very hungry, so I nibbled on the carrots and rice and then tried the chicken. It was sooooo tough that not only could I not cut it, my mother couldn't either, and she didn't have an IV in her arm. LOL!

The next morning I ordered oatmeal and for lunch I ordered the cottage cheese with melon and turkey soup. Again, I wasn't very hungry, so I picked at both of those meals. I felt so guilty having them throw so much food away. They really should cut down the portions in hospitals as people just aren't as hungry.

Just for Fun: What Was the Worst Thing You Ate at the Castle?

Everything I ate at the castel was gross. I was also on a clear liquid diet the whole time till the morning I got to go home, that morning I was able to have scrambled eggs, woohoo!! I would have to say the worst was the broth, it came in a package and I had to mix it with the warm water they gave me. It tasted just like water with a little bit of salt, yuck! I was very happy to be home and have DH cook for me the first week. I never knew he could cook so well.

It was hotel style at my hospital, too. The worst thing I had was oatmeal. I always eat oatmeal for breakfast (cholesterol issues) and this stuff was horrible. It was more like wallpaper glue! Sad to say the prunes were the best part of the one meal of solid food I had there!

Just for Fun: What Was the Worst Thing You Ate at the Castle?

My first night was all clear stuff...beef broth and jello. I ate tons of jello, the nurse even went to the maternity ward to get me some at 3am. However, the day I was to be discharged, I experienced some horrible nausea and vomiting. They said I had to eat and keep it down before I went home. Because I was so sick, I didn't get to pick what I wanted off the menu. They brought me a smoked beef BBQ sandwich that smelled like death....it was nasty. On the side was this dried up salad with escarole (can you say BITTER??) and spinach and iceberg lettuce that was slightly rusty looking. I can still smell the sandwich...

Anyway, I choked down the salad and ate a piece of bread off the sandwich and they let me go home. At that point, I was wanting to Ick!

wow, I am lucky I suppose. Our hospital has the BEST food! This trip I didn't get to eat very much but I have four kiddos so I've spent many days in the hospital. The burgers are very tasty..their grilled chicken is awesome! They have excellent club sandwiches too! People in my town actually meet at the hospital cafeteria for lunch b/c it's really good food and it's CHEAP!

I was on a clear liquid diet and somehow came home fatter than when I went in. (I didn't know at the time about the swelly belly) I thought they must have put a milk shake in my IV during the operation.

I had 2 clear liquid meals, then they switched me to non-clear. GROSS! There was this bowl of (I guess) Creamed soup, but it really looked and tasted like a sad attempt at white gravy. And a pudding. How in the world is that supposed to be good for you?

The next morning it was bacon (cold and not cooked well), scrambled eggs which were good, toast, and gross tasting oatmeal.

What are they thinking feeding us like that?
