What causes breast tenderness?

Someone posted this in the Recovery Thread, and since I have the same issue, I'm posting it here in the hope it will get a response. I'm 11 days post-op and am doing great except for this issue (and the misshapen swelly-belly). I'm on the same level of estrogen I've been on for over a year, and one ovary was removed, so if anything, I should have FEWER hormones running loose. So what would be causing breast/nipple tenderness? It feels a bit like early pregnancy, which of course is impossible.

Anyone know?

My dr told me that breast tenderness is an effect of estrogen. Not sure if one ovary would be an issue or not but it is definitely something to talk to your dr about.

Hey, LaineyLaine, thanks much for the answer. I'm sure you're right: it HAS to be the estrogen. Yet the amount I'm on is the same I've been on without getting any breast tenderness before. I read on an old thread here that you can still get PMS as long as you have one ovary, but my tenderness has been around for 8 days now--too long for PMS, I think,AND I'm still getting some hot flashes, so I'm not sure how that works. I'll ask my doctor on Thursday and PRAY he doesn't say I have to cut back on estrogen. I will go into hot flash hell if so. :O
