Bladder urgency after TVH and sling

I am on day 15 of post op for a TVH and a sling. I had a prolapsed uterus which was a result of delivering 2 large babies vaginally and only 18 months apart. My doctor said that the sling is about the size of a small piece of tape. I have a feeling of urgency in urination most days and when I go I get this tingling sensation. My doctor said it may take up to 3 months for totally normal bladder function to return. Has anyone else experienced this? Does it really take 3 months? This is worse than my pre-surgery issues which were actually not that bad. Thanks everyone!

Re: Bladder urgency after TVH and sling

Well, you're not alone I prolapsed after 3rd baby, had an LAVH, Burch and all that super fun repair. I am 3 weeks out and have the urgency and tingling you're talking about with some nice bladder spasms thrown in - and i had no pain or anything before the surgery! Don't know about the 3 month thing, but it's better this week than it was last week. I guess we just hang in there and hope that next week is better than this week. How old are your babies?

Re: Bladder urgency after TVH and sling

I had my surgery three weeks ago and I have the same issues. Dr. has me on Valium every 6 to 8 hours to control the bladder spasms. But I too have this constant urgency feeling. Dr. said the same thing as your doc did. So I guess we all just need to lean on it other and know we aren't alone.

I am 8.5 weeks PO from TVH with TVT sling and ant/post repairs. My dr says the same as yours about the 3 months to have function to return to normal.
I'm am still experiencing all the things you mention but have vastly improved since surgery I was cathed until 4 wks PO and have been self cathing since. I finally can void small amounts on my own. Hopefully will continue to improve.
Some things to consider. If you were cathed for any amt of time urgency will be an issue cause your bladder will need to stretch again. I would also encourage u to check with ur dr to have ur urine tested for uti. But from what I have experienced, read and been told everything you are experiencing is normal! Wishing you happy healing!

Re: Bladder urgency after TVH and sling

Thank you everyone for your quick responses. I feel better knowing that others are experiencing the same thing. You tend to feel alone in this process of healing. Hearing from all of you is comforting. I hope I can get this under control or at least see some improvement soon. I am a teacher, so luckily I am off all summer and can heal quietly at home. My children are grown and on their own, so I can concentrate on myself. For you younger Mom's, my heart goes out to you. Wish we were all neighbors, so we could be there for each other. Let's stay in contact and heal together!.
