Post Op Lung Complications - Atelectasis now Pneumonia

My lung partially collapsed the evening after my surgery on 10/9. After 4 trips to the ER my ob/gyn asked my primary care for help to find a pulmonologist (which are surprisingly hard to get into during the fall due to increased asthma activity and allergies), I FINALLY got in to the pulmonologist after suffering agonizing pain from my right lung and extreme disability breathing leading to high blood pressure. Turns out the gas from surgery has YET to be absorbed by my body, both of my lungs suffered from atelectasis and had fluid/mucus in them, as well as the gas causing them to be unable to expand (thought it was just the right, now both are affected), that fluid has grown some bacteria and surprise! I have PNEUMONIA!!! My body wouldn't allow me to cough (not enough pressure) so I couldn't hack up the mucus from my lungs. I've been put on a nebulizer with albuterol 3 times daily and as needed when breathing is difficult. I'm also on pain medicine with ibuprofen due to the severe pain the lungs are causing. The good news is, my hysterectomy is healing well. I am frustrated because I busted my butt (to the point of overdoing it ) to walk, walk, walk, walk, and I still end up with the dreaded lung situation which happened WHEN I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL making me even more angry at the terrible night nurse I had who completely blew me off when I said I couldn't breathe. Did I mention now i'm on bed rest for SEVEN days. 1 step forward, 3 steps back.

I am so sorry that you are experiencing these complications. Sometimes, even though we follow the instructions to a tee, our bodies do not bother to read those instructions and things like you are experiencing happen. I hope that now you are being properly taken care of and that your body will get over this quickly. I am sending you healing :hugs5: in the hopes you feel better soon.

Oh that sucks! I'm so glad you got in to see a specialist though and are going through proper treatment!
