Extremely high estrogen with hardly any progesterone

I finally had a full hormone panel done and was told that my estrogen is extremely high. But I don’t have hardly any progesterone.

I don’t know how this happened. I had my hysterectomy five years ago, kept ovaries but have been having a lot of unexplained issues. Having estrogen dominance and low progesterone explains a lot.

Could this be because they kept my ovaries? Should those have went too?

Any suggestions on what to do to get these leveled back out? She put me on some supplements for estrogen control but it has caused my body to go through what feels like the raging flu. I am scared to take these supplements again.

Progesterone normally opposes estrogen, so when progesterone levels drop, which commonly happens around age 45, estrogen levels can soar. My surgery was for fibroids, which are estrogen-fed, whose growth accelerated after I turned 45, and blood tests done at 2 weeks post-op showed that my progesterone levels were low. My doctor prescribed supplemental progesterone to bring my levels back into balance, so I suggest asking your doctor if that might work for you. Best wishes for finding your balance, and for your continued health!

Thank you for responding. She did put me on progesterone but she wants me to take this 10 days into when my cycling begins but the catcher is, I don’t have cycles anymore so how can I know when to start this medicine? I was going to create a separate post asking if people know how to see when they have their cycle.
