Sounds silly, but seriously.. What kind of hysterectomy did I have?

You can all laugh at me LOL. I'm sure somewhere there is a list of what's what, but I am still clueless. When I filled out my survery I think it put me in TAH?

I had an abdonimal hysterectomy, and I kept my ovaries and tubes. What are all the different types, and what do the abbreviations stand for? TAH to me I would think is total abdonimal hysterectomy, but if so that's not right for me since I kept my ovaries and tubes, right?

Here's a link to the abbreviations:

I don't know if you kept your cervix or not, or whether or not you had a lap surgery so I can't tell you exactly what you had.

I had my uterus, cervix, tubes and ovaries removed so mine was TAH/BSO.

a lot depends on where you come from too. In Australia TAH is taking everything but the ovaries. Radical is taking EVERYTHING!

TAH is removing the uterus and cervix. SAH is removal of uterus while leaving cervix in place. Even though I still have ovaries and tubes, I had uterus and cervix removed through abdominal incision. Thats TAH. TAH/BSO ia total abdominal hysterectomy with both ovaries removed. Hope this helps.
