Very Upset

I have been having abdominal pain for about 6months so I decided to go to the doctor. They ran the standard test and they all came back negative. So now they decide to do an ultrasound to find the problem and I get the results back and they are just showing cysts on my ovaries two on my left and one on my right and nothing else. So based on the results from the ultrasound my doctor and I decide after other treatments to go ahead with a surgery to remove one ovary with the two cysts and remove the cysts from the other and do a uterine oblation. Once the doctor got in and looked around she found that I had a 7cm fibroid in my uterus and was unable to perform the oblation because of the size of the fibroid (which she has never been able to not perform this procedure). After the surgery she told me what has been done and what couldn't be done because of the fibroid. She also said that there is no way the ultrasound could have miss such a big mass. So it's been 5wks after the surgery and I still have all the same really bad pain I had before the surgery due to the fibroid and I'm going to have to have a second surgery which is going to be a full hysterectomy.

Re: Very Upset

Did the ultrasound tech miss it or the doctor that read the ultrasound?
Did they do a CT scan or a transvaginal ultrasound? I had both. The CT picked up the fibroid first then I had two other ultrasounds (just a regular one and then a transvaginal one).

Re: Very Upset

My fibroid was huge, I also had 3my others the transvaginal ultra sound couldn't see them for whatever reason and they never found my ovaries either. I tried ablation and cyst adhesion and fibroid removal but it wasn't a complete ablation due to size of the fibroid left inside. Goodluck!

Re: Very Upset

Sorry to hear you've found yourself in this situation. It's very scary to be confronted with having to have a hysterectomy. You're in the right place though. There is fantastic information and support to be had here.

I had both internal and extenal ultrasounds that did not pick up 4 of my 5 fibroids, 3 of which were small and one which was over 3cm in my uterus. The only one that had been picked up was the 3cm on that was growing outsided my uterus. The ultrasounds also did not pick up the polyp I had or the fact that I had multiple cysts on both ovaries. Also, neither picked up the mass that I originally went to have investigated, so I'm going for another one tomorrow to try and work out what that is. It seems ultrasounds are of limited value and I don't have much faith in them.

I hope your surgery goes smoothly and uneventfully. *big hugz*
