Hysterectomy tomorrow 12/18-kids mentioned

This is the last time I'll go to sleep with a uterus. (Not that my uterus plays a large roll in my sleep, well at least it doesn't when I'm not on my period.)

I feel equally at peace and ready to be done and completely freaked out and want to go running in the opposite direction.

I'm having the same feelings I did when I first decided to do this. I have no plans for my uterus. I have 4 kids. We have completely outgrown our house. We do not have the sanity for 4, let alone another. I had a tubal ligation 18 months ago. You cannot be more done than we are.

It's still just weird that it will be gone.

Anyone have similar thoughts? Tell me I'm not crazy!

Re: Surgery tomorrow-kids mentioned

The night before surgery is probably the worst.... your back and fourth thoughts are very normal. I felt similar. Although, I do not think I was ever at peace with the surgery, just my logical self saying that this was the best available option, given the circumstances. My emotional side was and

Good luck with your surgery. We will be waiting for you on the other side.

Yes! I'm a little over a week away and while logically I know we are done after three, it's the thought that now a surprise baby can't ever happen. As long as the parts are there, it seems like it could happen maybe even though it's extremely unlikely. It's a weird place to be in. Wanting it out for health reasons and yet it's still a loss. Hugs.

Re: Hysterectomy tomorrow 12/18-kids mentioned

Yes! I have two kids. My pregnancies were difficult, landing me on bedrest both times and the 2nd worse than the first. It was emotionally and financially taxing on us each time. We always talked about have just one child but then agreed to a second (and he's awesome). We never wanted more than that. I've never once had that baby fever feeling after my second. I'm done! I was actually so afraid of an oops baby that I was pretty fearful of even having sex (even with bcp and condoms). My husband I fear would loose his mind if there were a third. Don't get me wrong...we LOVE our children but two is all we can handle. I bow to people with more!

All that being said...I cried a few days after my surgery (first time I cried about this) because I remembered feeling my second in my belly and now that organ is gone. Weird. It's still odd to me that it's gone...I don't feel like anything is missing in there.

Re: Hysterectomy tomorrow 12/18-kids mentioned

You are not alone. I have four kids. The oldest is 25 youngest is 11. Absolutely no desire for another. But still a bit freaked out at loosing these parts of myself. But I have been struggling with uterine issues for years now and am so very ready to be done with that part. I am all over the place about it, but it needs to happen. Try not to take it personal when people don't understand your position. I think it is a bit like trying to explain having a baby to someone who hasn't. They just do not have the capacity to wrap their minds around it. Because they have no experience of their own to weigh it against. They just can't help it.it is like trying to explain colors to someone born blind.
