Hysterectomy after menopause

I will be thinking of you! Your about to step over that huge fence into a place, that for me, is becoming less mysterious. Hope to hear from you very soon. Love and Prayers, Grace50

Hysterectomy after menopause

Hi Grace50,
I'm 49, no periods for 2 years was on HRT for about a year. I was about 3 weeks post-op & am now on Femtrace 0.45 it has helped with the hot flashes & nite sweats. I do feel better than I did before the surgery a little more energy. Everyone says I look better than I did...so something good is happening!
I am healing slowly I am 6 weeks since my TAH/BSO Dr says I still have bruising on inside, stitches haven't dissolved yet...said I'm more like 4 weeks post- op . The pain is managable if you don't wait for the pain to start. I took the pain meds every 4 hour when I got home for 3 weeks, I don't like pain. While I was in the castle...I was playing jeopardy pushing the button on the morphine pump- And guess what...if you want to wear low-riders....You can..the incision is that low Best wishes for a uneventful surgery & recovery.
God Bless
Lori

Hysterectomy after menopause

Your advice about having a Thyroid check was one of my first requests. You are well informed, and hopefully everyone will take note. My mother has "Hypo-Thyrodisim". My husband does as well. So far, I've been lucky. Thank you so much. I have not got the posting steps down just yet. But I added two that are meant for you and a few others who so kindly responded to my "almost freaked out" stage of this trip!

Hysterectomy after menopause

I was 59 when I had my TAH/BSO and had not had a period for about 7 years. I was blessed, I think, because I had an uneventful surgery and recovery. I asked for meds for nausea so I wouldn't be sick on my stomach after surgery and was given a patch to wear behind my ear. After the first 24 hours, I was up and walking as much as I could. I planned my recovery for 8 weeks of "being a slug". I even made friends with the dust bunnies in my house. My DH was very supportive of this plan, too. I am feeling great now; I really didn't know I felt as bad as I did prior to surgery. I blamed it on some other "conditions" that I have. The difference is amazing. I am on the V-dot now and it's working OK.

Yes, we do slow down as we age. Slow as I may be my mind is still active and I know where I am. Don't panic just because you over 50.

My recovery was quick (he released me for all normal activity after 7 days) and now after almost 2 years I'm glad to say that I'm probably the healthiest now than I've been in a very long time.

I woke up with an estrogen patch in recovery and have been on hrt ever since. I've noticed subtle favorable changes in my skin and hair and since the surgery, have stayed on an exercise program, and have watched my diet. At 53 I can honestly say I look and have the energy of somebody much younger.

Have you had your thyroid level checked lately? I found out recently my thyroid is underactive and am taking medication for that. It's a fairly common problem for older females and might be causing you to feel run-down as well.

I'm really glad to have had the surgery and so far doing quite well on the HRT.
Good luck!
I wouldn't have thought that laproscopic surgery would be advisable where there was any chance of cancerous cells - cutting it up would spread them around the abdominal cavity and they could affect all sorts - liver; kidneys; bowel; etc etc.
Sounds like you were clear of that and so pleased you surgery went so well for you.
