Keep ovaries? Surgery options?

Had biopsy's Tues 09/18, pathology came back fine, still need hysterectomy and scheduled for 11/06. Over a year of heavy cycles, pain and clotting. I have tried various prescriptions and other treatments to control cycles.
I'm 43, do I keep ovaries, what are the advantages/disadvantages?? Should I try to request a specific surgery??
I see my ob/gyn on Mon 9/24 for exam and ultrasound and to discuss surgery options.

glad you found us! Sorry you're going through all this but good pathology reports are always nice.

There are lots of options when it comes to hyster type, you need to see what you're offered. Open abdominal incision, vaginal and minimally invasive procedures are available. The ultrasound may help determine just what's needed. There are articles on types of surgeries, even videos of some, here on the site. Check them out.

Keeping your ovaries or not is a big decision so you need to discuss this with your doctor. You're young, at 43, to lose your beneficial ovarian hormones. Ask your doctor what benefit would be to remove them? There has been plenty of discussion about ovaries. You can do a search of the site using the search feature (upper right of each page) to find some of the discussions.
