8 months post hysterectomy: general questions - mini-periods and pregnancy

Hi all, I had an emergency hysterectomy 8 months ago immediately after the birth of my second child. It was a scary time and something I was not at all prepared for. So, I have some lingering questions regarding hysterectomies since it wasn't something I ever prepared for. I'm hoping to find some answers here. FYI, I still have my cervix and ovaries.

Here are my questions:
1. Mini-periods. I have them, they aren't too bothersome and I knew this could be an issue since they weren't sure they got all the endometrial tissue. Basically it's like very light spotting similar to what one would have at the end of a cycle (brown in color). I'm still having trouble wrapping my brain around this. If the blood is brown in color, wouldn't that be an indicator that it's not new blood and if that's the case, where is the blood "hanging" out if there's no uterus? If I have intercourse during this time, the blood is bright red.

2. Pregnancy - I understand that a baby can no longer be carried, but if the ovaries and tubes are still there, how does one guarantee you don't get pregnant? From what I've seen, it's rare, but how can doctors be so certain it won't happen?

3. Is there any way to stop the mini-periods other than further surgery?

Thanks for entertaining my questions!

Re: General Questions

If you still have your ovaries, you will still go through the monthly cycle, just not have a full period. You can still have some spotting if any uterine tissue was left behind. No way other than maybe hormones to stop it. Be thankful your ovaries are still working so you get the benefit from them. Was the cervix left or removed? Whichever, it should be stitched closed so no sperm should be able to get in.
