Urinary Tract Infections Post OP

I was just wondering if it was common to get a urinary tract infection after surgery. I had a TVH and bladder suspension on the 19th of March. I have been to the ER 1 week post op because of pain. I was told I had a UTI and was treated with antibiotics. One week after that I was admitted to the hospital for a very severe UTI and to this day it still has not gone away. I was told it was common after having a catheter and bladder suspension. I was told this week that I have white blood cells in the urine and am on more antibiotics. Any answers or suggestions will be helpful.

Re: Urinary Tract Infections Post OP

push lots of fluids, especially water and cranberry juice. take a high concentrated cranberry supplement and an acidolphilus supplement ( the good bacteria found in yogurt) every day. it should help stabilize things . good luck.

Re: Urinary Tract Infections Post OP

I didn't realize I had a UTI. I thought the pressure and spasms in week 2/3 were just part of the TAH healing process. Then I got a low-grade fever and chills and my sister/nurse made me call my doc. What a difference a few days on antibiotics made. Now 10 days later, it seems to be completely gone,
I completely agree with pushing clear liquids and eating Probiotic yogurt every day. You also may want to back off on sweets/simple carbs as my sis says those nasty bacteria feed off of those. If you're having trouble shaking the UTI, you may even want to get your blood sugar checked, just to make sure that it isn't elevated.
I hope you feel better soon!
