What scan should I ask for?

recently diagnosed with adeno. Have always had IBS and an extra long colon but the constipation is waaaay worse. Aaaand as a result of that symptom I have a hemorrhoid! Linzess doesn't even do much at all.

Wish I had a scan that could show how much of my colon is either squished by or attached to my uterus. I'm afraid to have a Hx bc of two cesareans and a tummy tuck. Worried they won't be able to pry my uterus loose!

My question is, what kind of scan might show the extent of a) swollen uterus infringing on bowel territory and b) the extent of adhesions?

Re: What scan should I ask for?

MRI usually gives the best imaging. MUCH better than ultrasound. Also, MRI is supposed to give a better diagnosis of adenomyosis, as it's frequently mis-diagnosed via ultrasound.

Good luck!

Thank you so much! Now to strategize on how to get it ordered and covered by insurance.... If you have any tips, send them my way!

Re: What scan should I ask for?

Not sure how to advise you because it really depends on your insurance. For me, I just told my doctors that I wasn't comfortable relying on the ultrasounds as they are not reliable, and that I wanted an MRI to ensure I wasn't misdiagnosed. In this day and age of medical malpractice, I think most doctors will err on the side of allowing an MRI, even if they think ultrasound is sufficient, because they don't want to be blamed for a misdiagnosis.

If you have to pay out of pocket, you might look into Castlight - my employer uses it to help employees find lower cost services in their area (e.g., the cost for an MRI can vary wildly, even in the same city).

What scan should I ask for?

Great advice! Thank you so much. I have an appointment with my GI doc next week and I'll see if he will get on board.
