PreOp Today - One Week to Go!
Had my preop today. I was extremely nervous. Brought DH with me, he was very helpful and was good at calming me down. I also brought my Hyster Sisters Journal with me - DR was amazed at how organized I was. Everytime she asked a question and I went blank DH would say "honey, it's in your book, you wrote it down."
My biggest disappointment is in the procedure. DR had me scheduled for LSH. That has now been changed to TAH/BSO. I knew there was a possibility for this to happen but was shocked when she told me. Apparenty the fibroids on my left side are attached to an artery and too big to remove through LSH. Needs to "open up" in order to ensure that she doesn't accidentally nick the artery as THAT could be really ugly! Then she tells me that she's taking the girls too (both ovaries) due to the endometriosis. DR says easier to do the entire surgery now than have to come back after the endo does more damage and pain, also doesn't feel it would be ethical to leave them knowing I'd just have to come back. I'll be starting hormones immediately after surgery. DR also said hopefully no more than two nights at the Castle.
Problem is that I was at peace with my decision until this morning's preop appointment and my procedure was changed. I'm still going to go through with it but I feel like I'm starting the mourning process all over again. I broke down something terrible after DH and I left the DR's office. I had to return to work afterward, and couldn't concentrate on anything else. Been crying all afternoon and have a crazy empty feeling all of a sudden.
Just needed to vent somewhere where I knew people would understand these crazy feelings. Thanks for listening sisters!

PreOp Today - One Week to Go!
I go in for my preop tomorrow and my surgery is also dec. 8 i also am having a tah because of my fibroids i will find out if keeping my ovaries is a option because the cyst has went away. it is very emotional thing and were all scared of the unknown how it will affect us. i was hoping for a different procedure than the tah but when i went to the doctor the first time she said it was less dangerous to have the tah because of the size and location of the fibroids so as in your case we have to trust them that they made the right decision. i will say a prayer for you that all goes well goodluck will think of all the hyster sisters going in on mon.dec 8.

PreOp Today - One Week to Go!
WiskOkie - My DR went over health history and made sure there were no changes. Blood pressure taken, weight taken, DR listened to chest/lungs to ensure all is nice and clear. Went over allergies to medications. Went over what pain meds would be prescribed in the hospital and for home - even asked me what kind I prefer to take vs. what I've taken in the past and don't want to take. Blood work is scheduled for day of surgery at which point they'll do blood count and typing (just in case something goes wrong and a donation is needed). Talked about my general fear of being in a hospital and not waking up. DR made me feel VERY comfortable with everything. DR really spent A LOT of time with what she expects to be doing in the operating room and checking with me and DH to ensure that we are still okay with our decision to proceed - we don't have children and she's afraid we'll change our minds, but we didn't want children anyway, just the choice. The Hyster Sisters Journal was the absolute best - a lot of my questions were already there and there was plenty of room to write the others that weren't.
Good luck to everyone else with their surgeries - we should meet up again here afterwards!
