Cool - Intestional Jostling/Pain on Runs >1 Hour Intestional Jostling/Pain on Runs >1 Hour

Had a RH Jan 28, da vinci, to get rid of stage 1 cancer. Did a lot of walking post op, and once I got the all clear to run, have been attempting to ease back into running. The first hour of the run is fine (minus my fitness loss). But, anytime I try to run for more than an hour, my intestines feel like they hurt with each step, pain as they get jostled from each impact ....I can typically push through it, but not happily/comfortably, and started dreading my previously loved longer runs.

My gyn onc isn't a runner, so hoping someone here has advice (suck it up? compression shorts? Ibprofin?)........or maybe someone has light /hope about how long this nonsense is going to last.

Re: Intestional Jostling/Pain on Runs >1 Hour

My first thought was to try to wear something more compressive to help bind things up a bit and see if that helps. It may just be that everything in there is still sensitive enough that the jostling for so long at once is just irritating everything. Have you tried running with an actual binder on? I wouldn't recommend Ibuprofen because it can cause some kidney issues when taking too much right before/during intense exercise like running. I hope (and think) that over time things will get better for you too. I hope so! I'm supposed to start training soon for my next marathon (which definitely will take me more than an hour...lol). I've only done one run so far (just got released to run), but was only out there for less than 30 minutes. I wear a type of running skirt that is compressive and didn't feel like I was bouncing around a lot, hopefully that will help. Keep us updated on how things go! Good luck!

Intestional Jostling/Pain on Runs >1 Hour

Hi there! I am 7 weeks post op today and ran 5 miles this morning. The first thing I did was go buy a pair of high rise compression shorts. I am normally a Nike tempo short gal, but I figured I would need some support and I was right. I have had no issues at all - Except the loss of some endurance during my recovery. I think this has made a huge difference. It supports the core and I had a TAH. I can't speak for runs over an hour - today's 52:10 was my longest since surgery - but I bet it would help!
